The club is also working toward becoming a discover sailing centre through Australian Sailing and hopefully by the end of this week I will finally have the documents ready to submit to proceed with our application.
Junior assistants , We currently have a large group of our youth sailors volunteering at 8.30 juniors and charlie and I are working on a mentoring program prior to Assistant Instructor Qualifications so that our current group of volunteers can have a pathway to more qualifications in the sailing industry . Once we have completed the structure we will send the details off to all the families so that it can be discussed at home before making a decision.
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
For the second sunday in a row we had very low numbers for this session in fact we only had one keen sailor in Bowen and because he was basically alone he got a solo lesson with Charlie and Max and they actually sailed away from the club over to the starboard mark and back being instructed in tacking , gybing and general sail control and from what the guys told me he went really well which i guessed by the broad grin on his face when he returned to shore , well done Bowen.
11.30 am Youth Racing
I have to admit it was a bit strange not having the wetsuit twins at the session as they were away in NZ snow skiing .
As for the rest it was race day so there was a lot of preparation going on including both Charlie and i changing some rigging on the lasers of Max and Ethan . We had a good mixed fleet of Bic Skiffs , Tera,s and Lasers at the start line which was at the club pontoon and the A mark just past the canal . The course was set as a gates course which did cause the odd confusion but when told of their mistakes mainly at the buoy rounding everyone did their penalties so well done everyone . As it was a part of a race series which goes until november all results were recorded with Mak first in the laser then Zach , then Ethan and in the Bic Skiffs Gemma was first and Jack second and TJ Third then in the Tera,s our new 10.30 sailor Hayden was second behind Matthew.
The conditions were very good with consistant winds from the south at around 6 knots and a slight outgoing tide and of course blue skies .Also just a rerminder that these races will take place on the first and third sunday each month.
