Hi Everyone, firstly I have a story for you all.

The story revolves around why we Instructors do what we do, well its about the smiles on young faces . Last Sunday the two biggest smiles were from Mary, who finally succeeded in tacking absolutely perfectly which generated a yahoo and fist pump from Tianna which caused a grin that must have hurt Mary's face, and the other massive grin was from Hado who after a bit of help from Tianna completed a dry capsize in front of his biggest fan ( MUM )

Generally all round there were smiles galore on an absolutely perfect Sunday morning !

8.30am Sunday Juniors

With light winds from the s/e which most of the kids got right at the briefing ( very scary ) we sent them all off in a mixture of Teras, Lasers and some Bics . From what I could see, despite the accidental capsizes and some visits to the bridge, everyone had a great morning practicing both tacking and gybing . Everyone seems to want to have a go at steering, so we were flat out swapping captains over, and it was great to see the more experienced people showing the new captains how its done .

10.30am Sunday Juniors

With the winds increasing to around 6/8 knots, Kyle set a triangle course for everyone. We even had Hallam and Lewin giving the bics a go and despite a couple of capsizes they did well . We then had a few practice races with Jess and Jas taking on Dallas who joined in and the rest racing around in Teras and Bics . There were a few collisions some yells for buoy room which were apparently ignored by Jess probably because she didn't know what it meant but no protest were lodged on shore so everyone just kept going .
Pat and Casey rigged and took the 420 out for some spinnaker runs which did have a few hickups but at least they tried , they even took Rowan ( or is it rowing ? ) and Hado for a spin finally we had to go out in the rescue boat and take Rowan off as mum wanted to go home .

Additional Notes

Racing starts next Sunday but we don't expect a big fleet as its Anzac weekend and a few of the guys are away up north racing but it will still be good to get out there and watch everyone race around for the afternoon .

Hi Everyone, well after a week away in rainy Melbourne it was nice to return to Sunny Queensland and as usual witness another great weekend of Sailing .

8.30am Sunday Juniors

Over the last two weekends, the weather has been absolutely perfect for our early class kids with manageable winds and generally good sailing conditions for even more junior sailors to either work on their crewing skills or their steering skills. As usual there were the odd collisions ( nothing serious ) and inevitable capsizes, but with the help of the crew of willing junior and senior volunteers everyone had a great learning experience . I even saw one of our hardest working junior sailors have his first go at the Open Bic, and despite the wind drag from his beaming smile he sailed a difficult boat well so well done Hado !

10.30am Sunday Juniors

Again, we had good numbers for this class, and with a little bit more wind than the early class we concentrated on both triangles and then some distance sailing . We have relaxed the rule on single sailing a bit especially when the wind is up a bit so that everyone has a chance to be on the water and learn rather than capsize . There are a few standout sailors in Alec Caban who just continues to improve plus Cody, Daniel and Jess who with each week are growing in confidence and skill.

Open Bic Racing

We are slowly rebuilding the numbers in this group with last years sailors moving on to Lasers but with the help of Charlie Bratten coaching Daniel, and a few of our 10.30 sailors almost ready to give full racing a go, I think by next Summer we should have a full fleet of Bic sailors racing . Jonah and Charlie raced in the last of the summer series with Charlie coming home first in the strong conditions and Jonah second ( more pies Jonah !!!)

Adult Racing

With our Junior Laser sailors lining up as well in the last race and winds around 15/17 knots it was a heated start but everyone got away well . The Adults slowly skipped ahead, but Casey doggedly stuck with them until the larger sails proved to fast for the 4.7 and everyone skipped away . The race was over one and a half hours so everyone was a bit buggered when then returned, but they all looked like they enjoyed themselves . The next series starts on the 24th of April which is Anzac weekend and also there is racing up north . Good luck to everyone who is traveling away on the weekend and have a great regatta .

Additional Notes

Special AGM Notice
There will be a meeting of all full financial members after racing on Sunday the 24th of April to discuss the direction of the clubs future. If you would like to vote but cannot attend proxy voting forms are available from the sailing office .
