Hi Everyone , Last weekend was our annual Youth Midwinter Cup which has been running since 2013 and for once we actually had perfect weather and even some wind to help everyone around the track . Numbers wer low this year despite advertising everywhere but thats how it goes occassionally . We had a good group of green fleet sailors and just a couple of open fleet . The two courses used were sausages and triangles with the sausage course for green fleet and the triangle for the open fleet .
There were a total of six races over the two days with the final race being a fun races using a minion buoy ? So what happened well Taylah thought it up in that they would chuck a buoy on the water and teams had to sail out and grab it and return it to shore , I would have personally grabbed it out of the winning boat and chucked it out again but Charlie was to slow at picking it up so Taylah told me but anyway they at least had some fun1 .
With the open fleet it was a tough battle between Harvey and Laken ( sabot) with laken winning 3 from five races . The guys really sailed well in the shifty conditions but if you fell in a hole it was definitely all over .
In green fleet It was a battle between Gemma , Reece and Zach  and again the sailed the conditions well especially Gemma who seemed to miss the dead spots more than Reece and Zach . I even gave the wetsuits twins a congratulations for sailing each race and trying hard so well done girls .
Thanks to RTM , Billys Chicken , Harbour Barber , Aspire Physio and TSS Sailing Company  for supporting the event both financially and raffle prizes so that at presentation everyone ended up with  a prize including our supporters , Taking out first in open was Laken and second was Reece ( no third place due to low numbers and in Green fleet Gemma was first , Reece second and Zach third  Gemma also rceived a north sails sail trimming manual and our twins picked up a sailors gift bag supplied by all the sponsors .

Hi Everyone , Firstly dont forget that our 8.30 Sunday Juniors sailing has for this weekend been replaced with both our annual midwinter cup and a bit of fun racing in the club tera,s , the club tera fun racing starts at 9.00 1m and is r5eally just for a bit of fun for our 8.30 learners and with the weather forecast looking good we should have a lot of fun . This years Mid Winter Cup after a slow start is starting to see registration numbers starting to increase so with our fingers crossed we are hoping for a well attended event . We have managed to get a new event sponsor in R.T.M.& JAYCAR  plus local businesses to support the event with some great random prizes and raffles so even if you aren,t racing just come along and support the club .We will also as usual be conducting our school holiday sailing camps on the 26/27 of june and 3/4 of july so if the kids are bored just sign them up for two days of sailing fun to secure a place just contact the club via email for an enrolment form
Finally I would like to thank one of our original laser sailors in John Townley who has kindly donated his boat to the club for use by its members ,it has a turbo kit and doesnt leakand it will be used for training and racing thanks again John! .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
With cool conditions but blue skies and light winds it was a perfect morning for junior sailing but despite the conditions we only had two keen young sailors turn up for sailing . The wind was out of the n/w at around 0-3 knots so as a treat for the two keen sailors we sent them off on an adventure sail down to the canal and back with Jade and Daniel in charge the boys were keen to give it a go and everything was going well if not a bit slow on the way down but you guessed it the moment they turned around to head back up the wind just kept dying out but the boys kept trying and nearly made it back until sarah cooper had to assist them back to the beach , but well done boys good effort.
10.30 am Youth Training
Again with this group only a few of the team in the wetsuit twins Reece and Zach turned up for this session so as it was the midwinter cup the following weekend we just had a talk about light wind sailing tyhen set them off down to the canal and back which sounds pretty easy but you guessed it the wind although it had come up a bit kept dropping out and changing direction . Reece did manage to cope well but the other team  members in Halle , Leila and Zach really struggled on the upwind so we firstly concentrated on Zach to get him going then I coached Leila and got her going and then we went to Halle which Charlie took over as truly my voice was getting very raspy . I have to say that although they all struggled at first they all stuck too it and managed to sail back to the beach and yep there was no towing so well done everyone ! We had a quick talk afterwards mainly focusing on what to expect next weekend which is looking very similar to sundays conditions .
1.30 PM Open Racing.
Luckily for everyone the wind had built by the time that the race started so we set the course in the main channel whit the start down at runners and the A mark half way up Soverign and the third mark in between Ephriam and Soverign . The tide was starting to ebb and the winds were around 6-10 knots Northerly with a little bit of shift so pretty much perfect . As usual Greg was away first with Peter , Casey , Roger and Trish close behind . Trisha had to pull out as she had forgotten her PFD and sail back to the club ( no Insurance ) which was a shame as it was perfect sailing weather . Greg soon went to the lead while Casey and Petre battled each other for second and third while Roger visited the sandbanks which soon had him a fair bit behind and unable to catch up , gotta keep away from the sandbars Rog! The finish was down wind and it turned out very interesting with Greg in the lead on one side of the channel and Casey and Peter on the opposite side , but as they got nearer to the finish Casey seemed to get more wind and really cut the distance between her and grer and with a final gust running down her side of the course she nipped greg at the line by 3 seconds and peter was right behind greg so really close racing.

. Hi Everyone , Lets hope that its second time lucky as I just completed the newsletter for this week and somehow it deleted itself and wasnt even in the draft folder ? so here I go again.
Firstly a reminder that memberships are due as at the first of july with renewal forms available on line or at the sailing office . The annual midwinter cup open to Bic skiff , Laser , Sabot and opti is only two weeks away and is always a great weekend with both racing and sailing fun with the focus on Green fleet sailing as most of our sailors are green fleet level . We are also for the first time holding as part of the event a tera race and fun sail on the sunday morning from 9am to noon , we decided on this addition so tha some of our sunday morning juniors can see what racing is all about while still having fun , Iam personally looking forward to it as I always like the fun bit of sailing .
As school holidays are approaching the club will as usual be holding school holiday sailing camps on the 26/27 june and 3/4 july , enrolment forms are available at the office or on line as numbers are limited .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
Well firstly we must be getting our name out there as we had three new juniors all the way from Miame Florida zach, sebestian and xavier signing on for their first ever go at sailing and thanks to Harvey and Reece who looked after them they all learnt the basics of sailing including steering in the light conditions , it will be interesting to see if they tack it up back in florida just have to watch out for alligators! The conditions were bright and sunny with a 3-4 know wind slowly coming in from the s/s/e so with Charlie , Jade and Daniel on safety boat duties a nice reach was soon set up and after a quick briefing everyone was soon under way well except for Emilio who forgot the rudder and started drifting in circles until the safety boat came over and sorted him out and away he went . TJ and jack didnt have the rudder far enough down at first but once they had that right they were away up until the unfortunate capsize that apparently was accidental ? With the american boys we finally got them out on the course sailing without instructors which just blew mum and dad away with lots of hooting from the shore .
11.00 Youth Racing
With some new sailors from our 10.30 training group signed on and our usual racing group we had a good group ready for our new earlier race day time . We had a short briefing regarding start line procedures and what angles they would be sailing on so what were they well from the start to A mark it was really closehauled but occassionally swung east and then they returm was basicall a broadreach with sails off which seemed to catch a few people out because they didnt let the sail out the boat either went really slow or self gybed and capsized right Halle ? There were also a few visits to the sand banks near the club but a quick jump out and turn the boat around soon had everyone going . Torsen and Zach had a good race fighting for 2nd and 3rd which Zach was winning when a moments lapse in concentration meant he fell out of the bboat and Torsen got in front but they still sailed well . The girls all sailed well completing the course even if they were a bit behind but its early days for them . On course duties on the day went to Jade and Daniel who followed everyone around the course and giving advice mainly the standard pull the sail on , let the sail off and get out and turn the boat around  so well done guys Charlie and I enjoyed being on shore for a change watching the fleet.

Hi Everyone , firstly please remember that all club memberships are due at the first of july and you can renew either by asking for a form at the sailing office or request a form via the club email and payments can be by D/D cash or card at the club and at the same time all storage fees are also due all payment amounts details are available at the club .. The midwinter cup is starting to take shape  and with the great news that we have a new sponsor in RTM and Jaycar Enterprises who are very keen to become involved and are offering great prises and giveaways its looking good for the future of our Midwinter Cup event so thank you RTM and Jaycar for your awesome support..As part of the preparations for the Mid Winter Cup as usual we will be looking for volunteers so if you can spare from a couple of hours to maybe a day just let us know at the club so we can make Mid Winter Cup a smooth running event , so who do we need well boat drivers , boat crew , Beach crew , canteen crew and barbeque cooks ! For all full adult members the clubs annual AGM was held last saturday and if you would like a copy of the minutes just email the club for your copy , essentially the club survived the covid years and is heading forward .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
Despite five families booking in on saturday afternoon we only had 3 keen sailors sign on for this session I think mainly due to the overcast conditions and the threat of rain . Because of the low numbers we soon had the boats ready and with Tristan doing the briefing again we were ready to hit the water . The guys in sarah ( jason and Guy ) soon had the buoys in place to suit the w/n/w winds that were coming in at around 4/6 knots which made for perfect reaching conditions and despite a few problems early jack and tj were soon of a cruising around the buoys while sahara actually got to improve her steering with jade on board as backup . Tristan was on hand to help the boys launch and is improving each week on instruction on the proper way to leave the beach and even return . The guys toward the end made the course longer reaching right over towards ephriam so they all had a great sail.
10.30 am Youth Training
With a few sailors returning ( lana and Hanna ) we ended up with a good group for this session and we even had two instructors out there in jade and Taylah cruising with the fleet . After a briefing where we discussed how to gain more speed when reaching and also how to speed up the tacks we set everyone off on the same course the 8.30 people had everyone was soon up and running . The winds came in around 5/8 knots so the conditions were just right for some speed sailing . We did send Harvey and Tristan off down the track going upwind and on their returns downwind they were both tasked with doing 10 gybes and the boath did well with no capsizes so after that success Jason sent them under the bridge with an upwind return which doesnt sound like much but the bridge is a bit tricky when closehauled mainly because of the wind shadows made by the piolons  but they both made it through without any instruction so well done boys . Two other sailors who are also improving is Leila and Halle whith both girls really starting to get the hang of it
