Hi Everyone , Well with the TRS ( cyclone ) up north it could be a bit rough this weekend for Juniors and Club racing so keep listening to the weather and watch our facebook page for updates .
8.30 Sunday Juniors ; With Tilly bringing the rello,s along for a sail on Sunday we ended up with 19 Juniors in the first session and with the winds light ( 3/6 knots ) n/e it was perfect conditions ! oh wait I forgot the tide ( outgoing !) which innitially sent everyone south so Kyle and I were busy towing everyone back but eventually everyone managed to pick up the n/easter and get some sailing in .
Addy , Ava and Till continue to impress me with their growing skills ( time on the water guys !) and with the conditions it gave the rest of the fleet the chance to really start nailing their tacks and gybes . All in All a really good session .
10.30 Sunday Juniors ;
With the winds settling from the e/n/e Andrew and I set a off the breeze course with the top mark near the bridge and a leeward mark near one of the houseboats ( yes everyone missed hitting the houseboat !) The first start was abit of chaos with timing as Kyle neglected to tell us he didnt have a watch ? so we sent Casey and Sienna over to help out and away we went .
We worked on getting to the start line against current and with a bit of practice everyone nailed it with some really good starts , shouts of buoy room at the top mark and good finishes , I even saw Olly fist pumping after his finish , must have been excited . We are hoping to get this group up to speed for the Mid Winter Cup in June , should be awesome .

Open Racing;
With a few people away at the states we managed to have ten starters at the line for two short races down near runners where the wind was and also the current ! Race one saw John Townley take the lead early in the four lapper and was never headed with Andrew Roger and James in hot persuit . The Youth group also had a good race with one of the most spectatular finishes ever with Casey leading early then Dallas overtaking her only to loose at the line by a metre to Casey , yes racing is cruel sometimes Dal . Race two saw Charlie have a hot start breaking the line right on the gun but with not ebnough boat speed at the innitial jump hes was overtaken by most of the fleet early . Again John led the fleet  in front of Andrew Roger and James 9 new sail )but this time Casey didnt get Dal at the finish with him finishing about 10 seconds in front and Sienna Charlie and Pat following up .
Easter ; Dont forget the Club is closed over Easter !! ( we are going to Narooma to pick up the Yacht )
Volunteers ; If you are interested in supporting the club in volunteering for on the beach , Rescue boats or canteen just let us know

Hi Everyone , As usual mother nature certainly controlled conditions this past week which really made a mess of the weekend sailing . At least on Saturday afternoon Casey and I had some fun in the 420 starting with virtually no wind then changing to the N/E at around 16/18 in the gusts , the reaches were absolutely awesome fun even if it was a bit wet ? not rain waves .
8.30 Sunday Juniors ;
With thunder and lightning from 5 am and bucketing rain it really started badly for the first class and I had to tell a lot of people who rang early not to bother . Of course by 8.00 am the lightning and rain had stopped and conditions were actually good for sailing but with only three sailors turning up we rigged a couple of boats and after some individual coaching we sent them out on a long reaching course . Mason improved his sailing with his tacking and general steering becoming less erratic ( straight rudder ) and of course addy with casey as her on water coach just cruised around smiling all the way
.10.30 Sunday Juniors ;
Again with shifting conditions and small numbers we just sent everyone out around a long course practicing gybing and sail trim which has been a bit of a bug bear with Andrew and I . We think we may have actually gotten through to them by hammering home the fact that you have to look and read the telltales and luff . It seemed to work well with everyone actually sailing well with virtually no luffing up . Now all we have to do is get Abby to DUCK !
1.30 ; Open Racing
With winds virtually non existent the sailors decided to not race but Tom Trisha and Roger headed of for a sail across to straddie and Casey , Charlie and Lewin rigged the 420 and went south trying to find some wind , we should have made them sit in the 10.30 class because they certainly didnt look at their tell tales very much resulting in a lot of frustration on the safety boat . We did manage to get them going so that at least Lewin could have his first go on the wire .  A few of the lasers are away this week at the states so the championship race gazetted for this wekeend has been moved to the following weekend so we will be just having a normal club race this Sunday.
 Canteen volunteers needed : We are still looking for some volunteers to help operate our canteen on sundays . The canteen creates income which in turn helps us support junior sailing so if you can spare an hour or two just let us know as we really need the help .
News ; Yes the rumour is true we are now the proud owners of a 30 ft racing Yacht that will be used to training our experienced youth sailors on big boat racing .The boat is presently in Narooma nsw and the plan is to go down over easter and sail her home , should be an awesome trip !
Bendigo Bank Youth Cup ; Yes the cup is definitely on and we are also thinking of adding on the sunday a tera race program for the juniors , its is in the planning stage at the moment but we are hopeful that it will happen with updates to follow over the next couple of weeks .

Hi Everyone , I just have to again start with how great the weather was on the weekend with winds around 10 knots on Saturday and up to 16 knots on Sunday . Saturday morning was perfect for the latest Adult learn to sail class at around 5 knots and the afternoon brought winds around 10 knots for perfect conditions for Tom , Maurie , Greg , Charlie and me to go out and practice and practice racing , just perfect even if I did go for a swim !
8.30 Sunday Juniors ;

With the winds aroiund 4/6 knots from the n to n/e Kyle set a long course so that everyone could have a good go at both crewing and steering . With more juniors now wanting to go up to their next level it was time for a few bowlines before sailing with several people being able to advance to the next level .
Who sailed the best ? well it actually hard to pick anyone specifically as they all went well with both tacking and gybing no problem ! It was so good that we decided to do our usual thing in the safety boat and cool people off with a bucket of water where we found Charlie to be the worst water thrower mainly hitting everyone in the safety boat and not the sailors . all in all a good session for everyone .
10.30 Sunday Juniors ;
With the wind settling in to the n/e at around 6/8 knots Andrew and Kyle set a triangle course which proved a bit tricky as everyone had to sail toward the bridge first into the dirty air before tacking across to the second mark but with help from myself and my crew we managed to get everyone to sheet on hard for the closehauled to the bridge before tacking onto a close reach across to the second mark . It was very tricky with a roaring tide but everyone finally got the idea of how far past the first mark to sail before tacking . Now all we have to do is get everyone to look at the sail more right Cody ? . I have yet to check the results but I will have the latest points on the notice board by Sunday .
1.30 Open Racing ;
With seventeen sailors rigged and ready to go and the winds building to around 12/16 knots n/e it was shaping to be a great race . Peter and Mark set a triangle course starting at Runners and heading up to the outside of soverign and then back down to a mark set opposite the start line . With two races set for the day it started with a general recall mainly because the wind had shifted more east after the start line was set making at least 6 boats early and not helped by Ryan tacking in front of the fleet ? chaos what chaos ? Once I moved the pin end buoy the two starts were perfect with Tom getting the best start in race one and Dallas in race two resulting in neither one being headed in their division no matter how hard everyone tried . The B mark ( gybe ) brought a few people undone as did not enough centreboard up sailing along the edge of the sand bank resulting in some spectacular capsizes right James ? all in all agreat set of races .

Upcoming ;
Just a reminder that the next club championship race date has been moved to the following week due to laser states being on and good luck to everyone who is sailing in the event .
There are several sign up sheets at the club for the following ; instructor and volunteer shirts , purchase of club shirts and also an upcoming First Aid Course conducted by Surf Life Saving Queensland at our club .
YES WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS !

Hi Everyone , With another week under our belt for 2017 Sunday turned out a perfect day for sailing from learner juniors to club racing . With blue skies early light winds it was just the conditions needed for our young sailors to improve their skills .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
As I just said it was perfect conditions for junior sailing with winds based in the East and even with a low tide on the turn it was just the conditions needed for everyone to practice both crewing and steering , opps nearly forgot running aground as well ! Everyone really impressed me with their keen attitude especially in the class room with answering questions and getting the answers right which to me as an Instructor tells me they want to learn more . The girls impressed me with Addy , Ava showing good skills and Addy also showing me how she gybes one up in the boat , Laura also had a good sail just cruising around the bouys . All in all a great learning session by everyone .
10.30 Race Training :
With the winds settling in around 6 knots again basically easterly Andrew set up a triangle just to train the group for the day . The course was pretty stretched out and with both lasers and Bics out there it was a perfect day for learning their upwind skills . Both Kyle and I were out there working especially on the closehauled section showing them all to not tack at the leeward turning bouy but to sheet on and sail upwind until they were nearly level with the top mark then tacking and laying the mark in one go . Jonah of course just took off and with a little coaching so did everyone else generally managing to successfully complete the triangle course .
Open Racing 1.30;
With the winds no settling into a N/Easter around 12 knots and a building incoming tide conditions were perfect for racing . As Peter was away I set a course starting down near runners and setting mark A off ephriam and mark C in front of the club the course held a bit of everything with a solid upwind to A then good reaching / broad reaching to both B & C . The start was clean with no overs at the start even Tom was on the right side ! All in all everyone showed great racing skills especially Tom and Greg who swapped the lead several times before Tom managed to just get a break on the run back to the finish to hold Greg out  with Ross then Andrew ( great recovery after capsizing early in the race ) Steve Russell Roger Casey and Ryan completing the course . Who didnt complete the course ? Dallas and Pat even though they sailed the 420 the best I have ever seen them do they do the broke the traveller and had to pull out with one lap to go BUGGER right boys !

New club sponsors ; Paradise Point Sailing Club is proud to announce that Paradise Point Bowls Club has become a sponsor for our club and we look forward to a great relationship with another local sporting club in our area .
School Holiday Junior Sailing Camps 3rd / 4th 6th / 7th and 10th / 11th of April  booking is essential as spaces are limited

Hi Everyone , Well what a change in the weather from boiling hot and no wind to just hot but plenty of wind . It certainly made for an interesting Sunday of sailing at the club.
8.30 Sunday Juniors ;
With conditions stating out around 6/10 knots from the s/s/e and a high tide around 9.00 am it started perfect for our 14 keen juniors to get out there and have a go although we did put 4 of our smallest girls on board a laser with Casey and we could certainly tell they were out there by all the screaming and not from fear just from the exciting speed that Casey generated , Yes there were a few swims as expected but generally everyone had a great time . I have to mention little Nelson ( 6years ) who sailed with Dan on a laser and just kept smiling no matter how fast they went on the reaches , his opinion at the end AWESOME !!!
10.30 Sunday Juniors ;
It was decided that we would go racing which as you can imagine was certainly a challenge our group had never faced before with even Jonah having trouble as the conditions worsened ( 12/18 knots ) . Even though there were some wild rides mixed in with lots of capsizing the conditions were just too rough so when Andrew asked me if they should stop it was an affirmative yes !
Open Racing ;
Yes we did race as the winds at the start were around 20/22 knots so 11 boats lined up for a quick start around a course I set that only took everyone just past the canal and then back to a mark over near ephriam island , so the had upwind , reaching , and broad reaching . As you can imagine the gybes were spectacular as were the reaches with people telling me they at times just couldnt see ! I should now say also that by half way way through the race the winds increased to 30 knots which forced a few retirements but the rest battled on with Tom the first boat home in just under 32 minutes and the last boat Casey ( with 8 capsizes and a lost main sheet ) in 52 minutes . Definitely one to remember . I shouldnt forget our two new 4.7 sailors Brendan and Ryan who at least gave it a try but with only a couple of races under their belt it just proved too much for their present level of experience .

Upcoming ;
This weekend Kyle , Mike , Lewin and Charlie are off to Yachting Queensland to complete their Assistant Instructors Course , good luck everyone !
New club shirts can be ordered from the canteen on Sundays

RUMOUR ? we might be getting another boat for the club , more news to follow
