Hi Everyone, sorry about last week, but if you read my Facebook posts you would know I broke my glasses so I had trouble seeing the words on the monitor, so I thought it best to wait until this week .

Firstly, just a reminder that we will not be open over Easter, but if any members want to use their boats just give me a call I can organise with our caretaker to open up and turn the alarm off .

8.30am Sunday Juniors

Last Sunday was much better weather compared to the week previous which had a few squalls come through, nothing over serious just wet . Numbers were down a bit due to the weather that week, but everyone still had a great sail. Even Hado had his first go at steering a Laser and did well, we could tell because of the giant smile on his face thanks Dallas !!!

Last Sunday it was back to big numbers with winds around 7/10 knots helping the experienced and not so experienced sailors get around the tacking course . It was great to see people like Sydney , Ronin , Rowan , Tilly and our other budding sailors cruising around out there with smiles on their faces .

10.30am Sunday Juniors

With the rough and wet weather the week before, we had to pull the crew out of the water a couple of times as the squalls were getting nastier, but last Sunday was just perfect with winds around twelve knots which made it perfect for some off the beach practice racing . Competition was strong especially with Daniel , Cody and Spencer each taking wins over the 5 practice races. Thanks to Kyle in the rescue boat for keeping most of the traffic away so that everyone could enjoy their racing , again lots of smiling faces .

Sunday Juniors volunteers : Dallas , Pat , Sienna , Casey , Dan , Charlie , Tianna, Kyle and Andrew thanks everyone for your efforts !

Open Bic Racing

With conditions now reaching over 20 knots, we sent Dan back to shore as he needs more strong weather experience. So, only Jonah raced, as Charlie had lost a large part of his big toe ( skateboard I think ? ) so he was on rescue boat duties . I have to take my hat of to Jonah as he sailed way above his weight literally as wind speeds reached well over twenty knots and the wave heights reached 3/4 of a metre , he had the odd swim ( so did a lot of adults ! ) but still managed to finish race one but by then he was a spent force so no race two for him .

Adult Racing

We were a bit low on numbers for the open race which included a round of the Laser States, but everyone who raced certainly had a big task ahead of them with a gated windward leeward course and two races in up to twenty five knots and big waves . Race one was a battle between Will , Peter , Maurie , Tom , Macca and Tim, with Will slowly edging ahead to take race one . We were busy in Rescue One with boats capsized and winds so strong that each time they got them up they went over again . Several pulled out from exhaustion as it was tough going, even I had to jump in at one stage to help Simone get her boat up . Race two with Macca nursing a sore head was cut down to three laps as it was just too rough out there, but this time Will skipped away and they just couldn't catch him . I believe Tianna has some great photos which she is emailing to the club, can't wait, should be spectacular !!!

Oh, how did the 4.7s go, well Casey won with the boys a long way back, and again I take my hat off to them all as it was certainly testing conditions for everyone including the crew of rescue One. Oh yeah nearly forgot a house boat ran into Sarah Cooper while she was anchored , yep you guessed it it was a hire boat and now he didn't know how to drive ?

Volunteers : We had a new volunteer on the start boat, Peter Board, who is going to come along and help with racing in the future, then there was Tianna Aidan and Charlie out there, and we were all drowned rats by the end .

Additional Notes

Camps ; Thu/Fri 31st and 1st of April, only one camp which is filling fast so if you are keen to learn more let me know at the club so I can save a spot for you !!!

Hi Everyone, finally we had perfect weather on Sunday after weeks of 20/35 knots large chop and generally very testing conditions. All the juniors managed to get out there in the Teras and Lasers and sail around a reaching course in S/SE winds.

8.30am Sunday Juniors

Well, with the weather perfect for sailing, we had our usual large group of sailors turn up for this class plus a couple of extras having their first go. It was so busy we started running short of masts ( 3 broken in strong winds ) in the Teras, but backed them up with a few Lasers to make the fleet. I coached Mary , Ava , Mia in steering and tacking, which they all managed to get right and even sailed half the course with the rest of the kids . From what I saw on the water everyone had a great time, and as usual special thanks goes to Dan , Cody , Jess , Dallas , Pat , Charlie and Casey for being out there with the juniors showing them how its done .

10.30am Sunday Juniors

This session is going well with generally good numbers every Sunday. Abby was again out there in the Bic having a few challenges with the boat but she keeps getting out there and giving it a go .
Cody and Josh also sailed well with Josh having a look of total concentration every time I came up to him . If the weather is similar next weekend I think its time for some practice racing for this group which will hopefully take them to the next level.

Open Bic Racing

With Jonah away, it was only Charlie and Daniel racing Bics. With a few laps short of the adult course, Charlie after a little prompting took off and finished first comfortably as he should with his experience but Dan with the help of Aidan's coaching improved over the course especially in upwind sections.

Open Racing

With a large group of Adults away we only had seven starters, four of which were the Junior 4.7 Laser fleet, then Steve, Roger and Andrew in the Adults . The start was hotly contested with Dallas getting away with the Adults and Roger and Andrew settling into a battle for the lead. From what I saw it was good racing all round with Andrew first then Roger and Steve . In the 4.7s it was a battle between Casey and Dallas after Pat dropped back about half way through the race, but she just couldn't catch him . Jess was also out for her first race in reasonable conditions and with some coaching help from the start boat especially on the upwind she managed for he first time to complete the course, great work Jess !

Additional Notes

Don't forget on March 20th we are holding a round of the Laser states with a presentation after racing . We will be looking at having two races on the day so it should be a good one.

Mid Winter Cup we are waiting decision from last years sponsors !

Hi Everyone, firstly if you haven't seen the Facebook post, Casey, Sienna, Dallas and Pat spent last weekend at Yachting Queensland attending the assistant sailing instructors course. I am proud to say that they all passed their tests and arrived back late Sunday with smiling faces and a better understanding of how they can help the Juniors on Sunday. Congratulations guys !

8.30am Sunday Juniors

With the young volunteers away at school and the weather as usual looking a bit iffy, it was a bit of a challenge getting some of the less experienced on the water, but we managed to sort everyone out and although there were quite a few capsizes, everyone seemed to have a great time. Tianna was again getting dragged behind boats and I was out with the with the kids with young Sophie on the main sheet (James daughter) hiking and wanting me to go faster. Aidan even tried to run us over with the jetski.

10.30am Sunday Juniors

With the winds increasing some of the kids opted to sail two up. As the winds increased there were a few capsizes but also a lot of good fast sailing. Spencer was going well, and Brendan who was having his first real go in the Laser even managed to get our new tacking style down. not exactly perfect but at least he was trying. I better not forget Hado who has been sailing really well in the last couple of weeks, even lasting the whole session, well done mate !

Youth Racing

With the winds now getting up there we sent Dan and Jess out together, and of course Jonah on his own. We set windward leeward for them which was a challenge especially at the roundings with some hairy bearaways and gybes . With the winds now around 18 to 20 knots and having them start with the adults it was certainly a busy start line and a difficult upwind but the all managed to make their way around the course and finish in around 40 minutes .

Adult Racing

With a small fleet on the water but great racing conditions the guys were lining up with 30 seconds to flag drop trying to get the best start . Tom was quick out of the blocks and looked good in the early stages but an unfortunate capsize allowed Peter to get in front and Tom said afterwards that he just couldn't catch him back up. Don't worry Tom, the new carbon section should make you even faster, but unfortunately wont prevent capsizes ! The guys had a pretty long race with the first boat home taking around one hour and thirty five minutes, so it was definitely a long race .

Additional Notes

Last year we ran a Youth Cup in June and we are hoping to do that again, we have approached last years sponsor and are just waiting for a reply before we post the dates for the event .
