Hi Everyone ,  After last weekend being closed because of our building maintenance program sailing was back in action last weekend and with blue skies and weeky warmer water it shaped up to being a good day for sailing .
I have to again thank everyone who joined in to help last weekend with everyones help we managed to achieve over two thirds of our maintenance goals .
Sunday Juniors 8.30 class ;
As I said earlier the weather is certainly getting that summer feeling with blue skies nice winds and smooth water . It was a perfect start to the day with winds from the west kind off but as predicted they were very shifty . Everyone had plenty of steering time and there were even a few gybes minus any capsizing ( still a bit cold ) Ollie took his friend out and even had him steering while Declan who only started sailing in last weeks camp had a go at lasers and did well for someone who only took up the sport on the Monday.
Sunday Juniors 10.30 class;
With the winds no settling nn/w and increasing to around 8 knots it was perfect for our new group of race practice sailors to begin their learning to race skills . I set them a reach up to the bridge with a tack at one end and a gybe at the other and after spending some time with Abbey and her gybing troubles ( remember Abbs facing the front is much better right ! ) I finally got out there to innitiate their first skill which is to sail too the marker buoy and touch it with their bow and then sheet on and sail away and after a few mis tries everyone started to get the idea and started to start getting the idea . Whats the drill for ? start lines !
Open Racing ; With the winds building from the west north west we set a start down at Runners with mark A up near the canal and C off Ephriam in the main channel . Off course after we started the sequence the wind changed to the west so it was basically a reach start which Greg and Tom nailed and they then tussled for the lead until tom hit B and had to do a penalty . It was certainly challenging conditions for everyone with gusts / lulls and direction changes the norm for the day .In the 4.7 fleet Sienna was leading for over half the race with Charlie right behind her but Casey and Dallas finally got their act together and managed to sneak in front with Casey first over the line and Dallas hot on her heels . Everyone was in agreement back at the club that it was certainly a tough race with the days conditions .

Upcoming Events :
4/13 NOV Pan Pacific Masters Games
( no juniors 6th and 13th of Nov )
Try Sailing day and Hospital Fundraiser 11/12/16

Hi Everyone, firstly thank you everyone who turned up to help last Sunday for the maintenance and upgrade day at the club. We managed to repair the pontoon, storage cage, internal doors and front awning support posts plus a new storage area. It was truly an awesome day !

All our programs are back on Sunday including club racing which starts at 1.25 pm. We are also looking at introduction racing in our 10.30 class as it was so popular on the Tera Race Day.

We have received a generous donation from Runaway Bay Lions Club to go towards more safety equipment which we are always in need of as our numbers grow.

Additional Notes

Volunteers
  1. Firstly we are looking for someone to help out in the canteen this Sunday 25th Sep, so if you think you can spare some time while your kids are sailing just let us know.
  2. We are also looking for volunteers for the Pan Pacific Masters Games 4th - 13th November with multiple volunteering positions on offer, so if can spare some time just contact me at the office.

Hi Everyone, yes I am very late this week, time just got away from me.
Well, last weekend as you all know there were no 8.30 or 10.30 classes because we had our Tera Race Day. How successful was it, just ask the 25 kids who came and had a try at racing with a little cheating added in.

There was the occasional accidental rudder removal, the odd loose bung, and some very tired arms from paddling, right Parker !

With the light winds early there was some trouble with the current getting to the buoys, but once the s/e wind came in it was actually just perfect for everyone to speed around the course then back to the finish line.

We did mix it up in the middle with a Laser challenge, and what was the challenge I hear you ask ? How many people can you fit on a Laser and keep it upright ? The answer was 20, yes twenty, and if you don't believe it just check us on face book or in the gallery on the site here.

One outcome from the day was the desire from a lot of the young sailors to do more racing, so we intend to change 10.30 class to include weekly racing.

Additional Notes

If you have some spare time on Sunday it is a maintenance day at the club so if you can paint, screw, nail, hammer, clean, cut wood, hold stuff and just generally help out then come along from 8am and I am sure we can find something for you to do. The main jobs are new door frames and doors, more storage space, painting the cage, the new doors, the frames, and the new front awning uprights before we fit them, so yep there's plenty to do !

RACING IS BACK ON SUNDAY THE 25TH OF SEPTEMBER

Hi everyone, firstly don't forget that this Sunday is our Tera fun race day with all our junior sailors invited to come along and have some fun sailing with other sailors in a teams event. It should be great fun as the rules are very simple have fun ! The event starts at 8.30 so get down to the club and find your team member and sign up to have fun !

8.30am Sunday Juniors

It's becoming repetitive, but yes again we had blue skies, clear water and very little wind early. Despite light winds or should I say no wind at the start, we still had a good roll up with 17 keen young sailors heading out to have some fun. The wind did slowly come in with just enough puff for even those people having their first go at steering to gain some confidence.

I have to say that Kyle in the Bic really sailed very well out there on his own. Also Ava who after some convincing from Tianna took a Tera out herself and just cruised through the field.

10.30am Sunday Juniors

With a nice breeze from the s/e kicking in, we started everyone out with gybing and despite some complaining at first everyone strated to focus on the technique and started doing smooth gybes. We even put Cody in a Laser just to see how he went and he got the thumbs up from me Dad and Mum. His biggest challenge was capsize drill which you have to complete if you want to move on to Lasers and he completed it with a very large smile on his face so it looks like we have another Laser sailor in the fleet.

Open Racing

With a few people returning from overseas trips and the winds building to around 10/12 knots it was  a great day for racing so just to make it interesting I set a short start line with no real option except for starboard start. With two races for the day the starts were a bit hectic with a general recall in both races just to liven it up. Dallas tried port start in race 1, but failed taking out several competitors including Casey as the line. Then in race 2 he got his boom caught under Peters gunnell and when called up couldn't go creating a bit of mayhem and again taking Casey out at the start. Greg even after a three month break took out both races but was kept honest with Macca and Peter plus Roger and Steve right on his transom.

Additional Notes

Coming up this weekend is our Tera Fun Race day so no open racing.

We will also be looking for volunteers for the Masters Games especially during the week so if you can spare the time just let us know and we can pencil u in

Hi everyone, well there goes winter, it certainly was a mild one, although at times the wind was a bit lacking it came good near the end. Sunday Juniors will not be in its usual format on Sunday Sep 11th as we are going to have another go at Tera racing, well kind of racing, it's probably more about having fun, and yes cheating will be allowed after all its supposed to be fun !

8.30am Sunday Juniors

With blue skies and light winds from the s/e it was perfect for some new learners and the more experienced sailors to spend the session doing some tacking and gybing with a lot of success and the occasional failure. Again Hado stood out, it's just a pity he wears himself out before 10.30 class where he needs to be. Milosh also sailed well in the Laser and is coming ahead in his general sailing thanks to Tianna .

10.30am Sunday Juniors

Again this class is going well, but there seems to be a bit of a stumbling block with a few of our sailors in regards to trying racing, hopefully they will work it out for the Tera race day. I have to say that Rowan and Hallam sailed exceptionally in the Laser with smooth tacks and even a few gybes and they both looked extremely comfortable at all times just cruising around. As usual I have to thank Tianna, Charlie, Patrick, Dallas and Casey for all their assistance with these classes, they are definitely committed to teaching all our new sailors.

Open Racing

As we are still looking for new sailors in our Bic fleet, it's just Jonah out there at the moment, but hang in there mate we are working on it.

With Tom back from his outback motor cycle trip and a certain sailor in red hot form, I thought I should warn him that yes you guessed it Casey is absolutely flying at the moment. We sent everyone off firstly in our channel then off to the top of Sovereign before finishing back down just off Runners entry. After a race time of over 1hr and 12 minutes the first three Adults finished almost on top of each other. Tianna and I were taking bets on who would be first it was so close, but Tom prevailed over Roger and Steve, yes she did beat them ( Casey ) by coming in just over two minutes behind. You guys are going to have to go back to the full rig.

Additional Notes

Upcoming Events :
  • Tera fun race day Sunday 11th Sep 8.30 start
  • Pan Pacific Masters Games 4th / 13th Nov : we have nearly doubled the entries in August for this years event from 2014 numbers so it looks like this will be another great event for P.P.S.C.
Extra news : There is on display at the club some architect plans for a proposal to extend the clubhouse, there is still a long way to go but we are going to give it our best shot.
