Hi Everyone , Well there was no sailing last Sunday due to strong winds which reached to over 30 knots by the afternoon so definitely not Junior or Youth sailing conditions so I thought that I would just mention how our Youth sailors went at Yepoon Youth and Junior Regatta .
From reports it was the biggest Regatta for competitor numbers that they have ever had with upward of 200 competitors .
So how did our representative go ?
Ross signed up in a fleet of 25 4.7 lasers and after three days of racing ended 17th against some very hot young sailors
Daniel in his first ever Regatta came 13th out of 17 Bic Skiffs
Jade came 11th overall in the same class as Daniel but was third overall in under 13
All these guys have trained hard this year with firstly our midwinter cup which they used as a practice regatta for yepoon then they trained even harder before setting off for Yepoon to test themselves against some of the best youth sailors in australia .
Conditions ranged from 1 knot to 25 knots so it really tested our sailors skills , ok there was the occassional swim but they all got back up and went again.
As special thanks goes to all the mums and dads as well for taking time off work to support their children and yes there was a few tired faces on monday and tuesday after such a long drive bringing the boats back home
Thank you all for representing Paradise Point Sailing Club we are truly proud of you all.

Hi Everyone , Well firstly some people may have noticed our email not working over the last week which was innitially an oversite from us but the process from telstra to rectify the issue as usual took several phone calls and hours of waiting time because you cant trust them to call back because they never do , so lets hope today its all back to normal as promised . The big news is we loaded the three boats for yepoon on sunday two open bics and one laser with Daniel , Jade and Ross heading up this weekend to do battle with all the other youth sailors from all over Qland so lets all wish them good luck and lots of fun at their first major away Regatta representing Paradise Point Sailing Club.
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
Each week now we get phone and email enquiries regarding new kids who want to try sailing so every sunday we always have a couple of newbies turning up for their first go at sailing . The Open Bic is becoming more and more popular with guys like tristan , Harvey and Lincoln and despite a few rigging problems  the guys are always ready early for their class . Conditions were the best they have been in weeks with a good breeze from the n/w around 4/8 knots so with Charlie helping to set the on water buoys and Taylah doing the briefing we soon had everyone on the water just cruising . Taylah is showing a potential as an Instructor especially with the new sailors while Jade and Daniel are always ready to jump in a boat and teach sailing skills to the new sailors while Abby has settled into her role as receptionist greeting all the new and return sailors . Everyone were really enjoying the windy conditions and at times the gusts were really getting people going like Reece who just scooted past us at one stage with spray off the bow . Tristan had to be rescued from under the bridge which wasnt really his fault as the mark drifted under the bridge and not realising he followed it into a dead spot and the rest was history so all in all a good day.
10.30 am Youth Training
This group of sailors started with homework from last week so the thinking hats had to go on while I queried things like barging and right of way at the start line , enthusiasm for this classroom test was somewhat slow but as I explained it was needed especially for the group heading to yepoon where they will encounter big start line fleets and as we know the start is very important . Our on water section involved a no instruction sail to the x mark down at runners then a close reach back to green near the club and as usual Ross was first off and got so far in front that we had to call him back to the fleet . The wind had turned n/n/e at around 6/10 knots solid breeze so the downwind was fun and the close reach back was hard work with especially Taylah showing her upwind skills just outpointing both Abby and Ross while keeping good boatspeed . In The Bic,s its become a real tussle between Jade and Daniel with Jade as with Taylah just outpointing Daniel on the upwind so Dan a bit more work needed there then finally we had Lincoln who although still slow is definitely getting better in his general sailing and just needs to like most people work on the upwind .
1.30 pm Open Racing
With the winds predicted to reach 20/25 knots by mid afternoon I decided to run a triangle in the main channel starting down near runners and two marks accross the channel near the bottom of ephriam .
Unlike last week everyone behaved themselves at the start so no general recalls and it was a very competitive start . Jade had a blinder right up with the lasers while Daniel got caught up a bit with the lasers but was soon after her on the upwind . In the lasers it was a mix of 4.7 and radial with the radial sailors soon breaking out in front with innitially greg in front but by the time they had completed the first triangle Tom had got in front and was never headed beating greg over the line after 50 minutes of racing . The conditions ( e/n/e 10 /16 knots ) forced a couple of retirements but Charlie followed them back to the club on the ski just to be safe while Taylah and I kept an eye on the rest , yes she was my crew for the day did pretty well except for anchor and mark retrieval more wheeties needed ! The Open Bic became a one horse race with Jade pulling out a good lead on Daniel that Dan just couldnt pull back on the day but like true competitors they sailed back to the club together so well done guys great sailing.
no racing Sunday the 3rd of October due to long weekend
Upcoming
Saturday 2/10 / 2021 we are looking at a club maintenance day where we are hoping to do some building and boat maintenance , if you can help just let us know but remember its a long weekend !

Hi Everyone Well Christmas is really just around the corner I cant believe another year nearly over but vat least it was at least for us queenslanders an improvement on 2020 but lets face it that wouldnt be hard . 2021 allowed some of our adults to travel and sail and it also allowed some of our Youth sailors the opportunity to compete in local and state regattas unlike 2020 . My only regret for the year was that I couldnt be with the Youth group for both midwinter cup and Youth week due to illness but Iam definitely going to be behind them when Jade , Daniel and Ross head for Yepoon in a few weeks time and we wish them luck and happy sailing and even though we cant physically be there Charlie and I will be watching from the wings ..
8.30 am Sunday Juniors :
Even though it was a bit chilly early sunday always looked like being another great day with blue skies and yes even early wind which is a definite change from previous weeks so everyone was soon out rigging boats with the odd help from parents and instructors . We soon were ready for briefing and despite some trepidation Taylah had a go in front of the class , yes she did have notes and also me standing beside her with helpful prompts . The only unfortunate side to the windy conditions were that the wind was westerly and shifty but with charlie and jason combining they soon had a course set and then reset as the wind started to favour n/w . All the bic sailors couldnt wait to get out there because they finally had wind to really get going andd even Reece in a Tera was right on their heels . Taylah and I stayed in the shallows launching people and Jade took on three juniors in a Tera teaching tacking then sailing out in front of the club , they must have been having fun because all I could hear was laughing although Taylah said she thinks they were laughing because they were taking turns getting hit on the helmet with the boom ? There was some trouble early with people having to be towed but once Charlie and i herded everyone up to the buoys they were just cruising and enjoying some good gusts which even had the teras cruising on the reach .
10.30 am Youth Group:
After some conversations between fathers and children the week before about who was the better sailor it was decided during the week that for fathers day we would have a father child challenge so  with some trepidation a few fathers dusted off their sailing gear from twenty years ago and took up the challenge to sailing against their kids . As you can imagine all our youth group and some of the juniors were soon out on the water and heading to a start line down at the channel south of the club . Even my boat was out as Andrew complained that it wasnt fair as he had nan old boat so I gave him mine and yes it didnt help Abby still beat him we even had charlie out there as he couldnt resist the challenge . Unfortunately mother nature wasnt helpful with the wind virtually dying out half way up the first lap so from then on it was a struggle especially for a couple of dads who sailed club boats as they were both leaking and finally had to be towed home . The funniest part as usual involved charlie who while trying to cover abby heading for the finish line capsized while tacking twice but he still managed to beat her over the finish line and of course stood up while going over the line and saluted the crowd while Harvey gave him the finish hooter so all in all lots of fun and we will definitely do it again next year and hopefully have the leaks fixed in the club boats !
1.30 pm Open Racing :
With  a good fleet of 12 boats including Bics rigging on the shore but with still light winds from the N/N/E at around 2/4 knots I decided to set a start near runners with a upwind buoy slightly in the sailing zone mainly because the outgoing current was roaring then a rounding buoy up near the port mark near the canal then a down wind back to the start line buoy buy as it always is with mother nature as soon as we got back out for the start luckily the wind shifted N/E and came up to around 6/8 knots setting up a perfect upwind start so yes you guessed it everyone was so keen that four boats broke the start and a recall was called but this time everyone behaved with Talyah right up the front just like her brother the week before . Greg did his usual away we go and looked to have a clear lead but then Steve appeared in the lead with a lucky wind lift and Greg couldnt peg him back . Tom was also doing well but yep he hit the sandbank and capsized alllowing everyone to get in front with Chris coming home third . In the bics it was a great race between Jade and Daniel who is really improving especially his upwinds buy Jade just sails away on the downwinds finally crossing the line 26 seconds in front of Daniel so two very p[roud coaches watching both of them improving weekly.

Hi Everyone , Finally yesterday Iam glad to report the water was heaps warmer than last Sunday when Jade and I went for a training session in the lead up to her Yepoon trip for their Regatta . After several months standing in the winter water training new sailors its certainly a relief to not be frozen from the waist down every Sunday morning . Dont forget that this sunday is fathers day and to celebrate it this year we have decided to have a father and child race but if dad cant make it the kids can substitute so it should be a lot of fun there will even be some prizes . I havnt decided on what the actual race will look like but Iam sure it will be fun and I suggest all mobile phones be left on shore because  their could be some swimming involved especially if captain capsize is involved !
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
With my phone running hot with new bookings on friday and saturday it was looking like a big day on Sunday and with a total of 16 sailors 7 of which were first timers turning up and signing on we were soon flat out getting people into safety gear and out to the rigging area to help our sailors rig boats . With Jason and Charlie in charge of the safety boats we soon had a course set so that our experienced sailors could get on the water while Daniel , Ross Taylah and I kept the first timers in the shallows to give their first go at sailing . The guys did have a bit of trouble setting the course something about where is the wind ? which was kind of coming from the North? which was enough for the likes of Reece , Harvey , Tristan , Flynn and the rest of the experienced sailors to at least get out for a sail . They did struggle a bit but the smart ones followed Jade who took one her friends for a sail in the Taz . One of my first time sailors Daniel couldnt believe that he actually sailed a boat alone on his first try and I still remember his smile while just slowly cruising around the course . A special thanks also to all the volunteers both adult and youth who volunteer their time every sunday to help with the new sailors coming to try their sport of sailing.
10.30 am Youth Training
This group had a couple of new sailors join them and although their was some discussion about age elligibility we let them join in anyway because we figured they were no threat to the original group and yep they werent ! so who were these new sailors for 10.30 well they were Andrew and Scott yep scotts boat is fixed so they decided to try it out and from that eppisode thats were the idea of a fathers day race was born so all the dads you can blame Andrew and Scott if you get wet next Sunday . We luckily had some wind from the n/e not a lot but enough to give everyone a chance to practice their least favourite sailing yep light winds . Abby nearly lapped scott during the session and she was just about to overtake him when we blew the horn to finish but she reckoned she would have had him on the next lap . Daniel is definitely improving and Charlies saturday coaching influence is definitely showing with better tacking and Gybing speed now evident and finally Roscoe who in general is the best in the group for roll tacks and gybes which shows in his overall boat speed so well done everyone .
1.30 pm Open Racing
With the wind shifting more east by 12.30 and Charlie in charge of setting the race course he set up a triangle starting at Runners the east to A mark then n/n/w to C then s/s/e to B  to finish . As it wasnt a club championship race we decided on three one lap sprints which turned out great for the dozen boats out there . Each start was definitely hectic and the work up to A each time was tricky in the 5/7 knot winds and quite strong incoming tide . In the Bics Jade got race one over Daniel but in race two Jade was blocked by Lasers while Daniel got a clean start and Jade couldnt catch him and finaly in race three Daniel actually beat everyone to the start yes he beat all the Lasers while Jade starting mush better just couldnt bridge the gap staying pretty much 50 mtrs behind him around the whole course . In Lasers Greg showed a cean pair of heels in each race rounding A first and just taking off on the reach to C . Young Ross had his best result evey in race two beating everyone over the line for a well deserved second edging out John B Chris and Roger and yes included a fist pump from Ross and included a big grin. I think everyone really enjoyed the racing with perfect sunny sailing conditions just needed a few more knots of wind .

Ok dont forget on sunday the
fathers day race probably starting around 11.00 am everyone welcome !

Yepoon starts on the 20/9/2021
