Hi everyone, wow, I am really late this week, just been very busy with the planning for this weekends event. It is looking like we will have good wind and weather if not a bit cool around 20 degrees for the Bendigo Bank Youth Cup and Tera Cup on Sunday, but they do say the sun will be shining and also favourable winds over the two days . 8.30am Sunday Juniors With last weekends weather very patchy we didn't have much of a call up for the early class but those who turned up actually had good sailing weather, with wind generally from the north it created actually good conditions with steady breeze and tide creating smooth water . With Lewin out of action with a broken wrist, we all enjoyed a very funny video that his mum took off him waking up which she will probably keep for his twenty first birthday . 10.30am Sunday Juniors By the time this session started the winds were around 6/10 knots n/e so it was perfect, especially for those who had entered the Tera cup on the 26th of June to practice teamwork. I have to say Abbey and Rowin really did well with straight lines and good tacking between the buoys even Hallam and Ben did well eventually once we got the sailing at the buoys instead of away from them. Jess took a friend out who accidentally was sprayed by the yellow boat it was all Charlies idea right Charlie . Open Bic Racing With Jonah and Alec away it was up to charlie and Daniel to race the Bics, but it didn't start well with Dan forgetting to duck and copping one on the jaw causing a split gum and some bleeding. We sent him back to shore as a precaution and he ended coming out on the rescue boat instead. Charlie raced himself and came first second and third, he actually sailed very smart especially as there were quite a few knocks with wind speeds anything from 10 to 17 knots. Open Racing Not many turned up again for racing so it was up to the 4.7 sailors and one ring in with a full rig to line up at the start. Conditions were a bit of a challenge with the gybe mark set in the s/w right in the gusty area so there were a few gybe capsizes right Tianna ? Pat really pulled out a special effort and lead for almost all the race with crisp tacks and gybes the order of the day, Dallas and Casey just couldn't seem to catch him but as any sailor will tell you its not over till its over and on the last leg back to the finish both Pat and Dallas got a knock and then capsized and Casey missed it and sailed first over the finish line . It was truly great racing to watch ! Additional Notes Don't forget normal Sunday juniors isn't on as it replaced with the Tera Cup, and we are still looking for crews so come along and join the fun racing

Hi Everyone, well its going to be a short news letter this week after the rough weather last weekend which resulted in a lot of early phone calls where I said their would be no 8.30 class due to the forecast....which didn't end up happening. 8.30am Sunday Juniors Yes, we did run juniors utilising a couple of Lasers and a few Teras. The conditions in close were ok for sailing with winds from the south a bit gusty at times, but the biggest draw back was the water temp, which is really starting to get that winter chill to it, which now means wetsuits for the keen winter sailors . No one lasted the distance, since once they were wet it was just too cold so everyone headed for early showers, especially Isabel who I was teaching steering which resulted as usual in quite a few capsizes . 10.30am Sunday Juniors Yes it was getting colder and a bit more wind from the south was coming through, but still we had those who wanted to go out and have some fun. Cody and Dan sailed a Laser together and were really flying, but not as quick as Jess who went out in the radial and was at times lost in the spray. Lewin took off in the Bic and Hallam in the Tera, but neither lasted again due to the cold. Lewin was sailing really well in the Bic, but I just heard yesterday that he has broken his wrist, so there goes sailing for at least a month . Open Bic Racing Well as no one turned up, this section didn't race, so I suppose they are saving their energy for the Youth Cup in a couple of weeks ? Open Race With conditions settling from the SS/E, we sent the group off in winds around 15/18 knots but smooth seas with the incoming tide so it was actually perfect sailing weather. Everyone did a couple of laps in our channel then set off to the top of Sovereign, which was generally a broad reach and then the close-hauled slog back home finishing at the club with Michael first then Tom and Peter. Generally it was a pretty close race but I think everyone was glad to finish and get warm. The 4.7s had a good tussle as well with Dallas leading for at least half the course before Casey after a capsize seemed to get a burst of energy and overhauled Dallas to finish first. The boys hopefully learned a valuable lesson on rigging as both of their clew straps were too loose resulting in a too full sail which really affected their upwind . Additional Notes Volunteers : If anyone has some spare time the canteen is looking for people to help out on Sundays especially with the Bendigo Bank Youth Cup and Tera race day on the 25th and 26th of June
Bendigo Bank Youth Cup : We are looking for both beach and boat crews tell help with both the Cup and the Sunday Tera racing. We are also looking for a start boat and it doesn't have to be an inflatable, it will spend its time starting and finishing , if you can help us out or know someone who can help just let us know on Sunday. CU on the water John Murphy Hi Everyone, well to answer the question as to whether we ran Juniors on Sunday after Saturdays weather, yes we did as it was a complete reversal of Saturdays weather except for the wind . 8.30am Sunday Juniors
10.30am Sunday Juniors With the winds picking up to around 14 knots in the gusts, we sent the group out with just a basic course to see how they coped with the increasing gusty conditions, which everyone seemed to revel in with some quick reaching rides and Yahooing !!! Then we threw a soccer ball in amongst them with the object of pick up and pass while sailing back to the yellow buoy. There was certainly a lot of maneuvering and surprisingly hardly any collisions, despite everyone trying to fit into the one space to retrieve the ball. We will definitely try it again as not only is it fun its great for skills training as well. Open Racing With only our Junior sailors on hand as the adults were either injured, away or it was looking a bit gusty for some, it was up to the 4.7 Lasers and the Open Bic crews to line up for the start. This proved very interesting, as from the time everyone left the beach to the start sequence the wind increased from around 15/17 knots to 20/25 knots from the west which made it a very busy start line. Daniel in the Bic struggled in the conditions, which are the strongest he has ever sailed in and finally had to be towed home. Charlie reveled in the winds and just took off, while Jonah sailed the best I have ever seen him sail in conditions which are normally way above his weight capabilities, well done mate ! Dallas sailed well in the Laser, coming home first with Pat a good second and Casey third after struggling with the extra speed and light weight of my Laser, but again I take my hat off to her because despite many capsizes she still finished the course all be it very tired. Well done guys in very testing conditions. Additional Notes WANTED CREWS FOR THE TERA CHALLENGE ON SUNDAY THE 26TH OF JUNE LIMITED BOATS AVAILABLE SO SIGN UP NOW !
CU on the water John Hi Everyone, yet again another week in Paradise with both Saturday and Sunday turning out with blue skies and good winds, even if they were from the west. We had Casey and Sienna out on Saturday training for the Bendigo Bank Youth Cup working on roll tacks and gybes, I guess they are really keen to do well this year. 8.30am Sunday Juniors
10.30am Sunday Juniors After the usual hot chip run and again with light winds, we finally got on the water with a rough triangle course which became a challenge for just about everyone, especially as the incoming tide increased. Most of the Bic sailors really struggled in the conditions, but I did manage to get Jess ( Alge !) and Brendan going around what turned out to be a difficult course with the tide influence, but I congratulate both of them for listening and really having a go.
Open Bic Racing Well with Charlie and Daniel using excuses for not sailing, it was up to Alec and Jonah to again support their class in what had been all day very testing conditions with winds now s/e but still plenty of increasing outgoing tide. They sailed a shorter course than the Adults with two tough upwinds, which Jonah actually sailed very well with good boat speed and he even went the right way. It must have been Alec's day for going too far like Jonah the week before especially coming back from B mark ? Gotta shorten them up Alec. Open Race With a few no shows among the adults, probably because of the light conditions, we only had a fleet of 14 boats on the water with a good sprinkling of 4.7 sailors totaling 6 with Brendan and Jess joining the fleet . We held two back to back races comprising of triangle and windward leeward with Tom coming out the victor and Steve coming in second ( must have been the borrowed sail ) and Simone first . Casey lead the pack in both races with Sienna second in the first and Dallas second in race two well done everyone
