Hi Everyone, well its going to be a short news letter this week after the rough weather last weekend which resulted in a lot of early phone calls where I said their would be no 8.30 class due to the forecast....which didn't end up happening.

8.30am Sunday Juniors

Yes, we did run juniors utilising a couple of Lasers and a few Teras. The conditions in close were ok for sailing with winds from the south a bit gusty at times, but the biggest draw back was the water temp, which is really starting to get that winter chill to it, which now means wetsuits for the keen winter sailors . No one lasted the distance, since once they were wet it was just too cold so everyone headed for early showers, especially Isabel who I was teaching steering which resulted as usual in quite a few capsizes .

10.30am Sunday Juniors

Yes it was getting colder and a bit more wind from the south was coming through, but still we had those who wanted to go out and have some fun. Cody and Dan sailed a Laser together and were really flying, but not as quick as Jess who went out in the radial and was at times lost in the spray. Lewin took off in the Bic and Hallam in the Tera, but neither lasted again due to the cold. Lewin was sailing really well in the Bic, but I just heard yesterday that he has broken his wrist, so there goes sailing for at least a month .

Open Bic Racing

Well as no one turned up, this section didn't race, so I suppose they are saving their energy for the Youth Cup in a couple of weeks ?

Open Race

With conditions settling from the SS/E, we sent the group off in winds around 15/18 knots but smooth seas with the incoming tide so it was actually perfect sailing weather. Everyone did a couple of laps in our channel then set off to the top of Sovereign, which was generally a broad reach and then the close-hauled slog back home finishing at the club with Michael first then Tom and Peter. Generally it was a pretty close race but I think everyone was glad to finish and get warm. The 4.7s had a good tussle as well with Dallas leading for at least half the course before Casey after a capsize seemed to get a burst of energy and overhauled Dallas to finish first.
The boys hopefully learned a valuable lesson on rigging as both of their clew straps were too loose resulting in a too full sail which really affected their upwind .

Additional Notes

Volunteers : If anyone has some spare time the canteen is looking for people to help out on Sundays especially with the Bendigo Bank Youth Cup and Tera race day on the 25th and 26th of June

Bendigo Bank Youth Cup : We are looking for both beach and boat crews tell help with both the Cup and the Sunday Tera racing. We are also looking for a start boat and it doesn't have to be an inflatable, it will spend its time starting and finishing , if you can help us out or know someone who can help just let us know on Sunday.
