Hi Everyone , Last Sunday was our first real taste of spring with a mild night and a frosty morning but definitely a positive change from our winter weather . . Firstly I would just like to remind everyone that our sunday juniors program is on hold for the next two weekends due to the bulk of our Instructors travelling north to Yepoon for what is turning into a big youth regatta with my last count at over 170 boats . We have five Open Bic class in green fleet which is designed for beginner sailors and two Open Bic in the open fleet and one laser in 4.7 open and it is the biggest fleet that paradise point sailing club has ever sent to any regatta so from me I hope you all have a great time and bring home some new sailing skills . We should also thank Darren and Scott for upgrading our fleet of Bics last weekend in replacing much needed parts even though our boats arent going but they will all be ready for when everyone returns after the holiday break .
With our holiday camps we are only running one camp these holidays which will be at the end of the holidays ( 29/30 sept ) yes a thursday - Friday as again we need instructors to safely run these activities and I suggest that if you are thinking of joining in I suggest you submit your enrolment form soon as spaces are filling fast !
Forms avbailable from the sailing office .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
Well as I said earlier the weather was perfect for this class with blue skies and slow current but we were missing one thing and you guessed it yep wind . What wind there was was roughly west then n/w and s/w so it kept Jason and Guy busy moving marks around but in the end it was just not there so everyone got some drifting practice followed by paddling practice . Tristan tried to get to the green and nearly made it but as usual the wind just died and he just started drifting backwards while Harvey did manage to find little bits of wind to make progress at times then join everyone else in drifting around . We did allow tacks and gybes in the light conditions as well as its a goo time when winds are light to practice gybes . We even put our new safety boat out but unfortunately she decided to stop and not start so the mechanic was back tuesday and apparently its still a fuel problem as she had sat for 4 years and the old fuel even though we replaced it had some residiual left in the system which stopped her fingers crossed she will be going again soon
10.30 am Youth Training
This group which consisted of everyone who were  going to yepoon had something totally different which was instigated by Charlie and that was how to read telltales and he even had notes for everyone ok they were my notes by he had them which he combined with questions and I thought it went well with people having to think about how each telltale pair should read in certain conditions they all didnt do that bad mainly the experienced sailors and our green fleet group just looked a bit confused . We only set a short course as the winds yes we had wind were still light but sailable so as a test for everyone we set an upwind and down wind . The experienced people just cruised around and our green fleet struggled which was understandible as they have only just come out of 8.30 but at least thay all gave it a try !

1.30 pm Open Racing
We only had a small group of five boats as our youth sailors had to pack their boats on the trailer so that scott could take them north .
The course we used was an easterly with a start over near jasmine ave at runners and A mark to the east and a top mark up near the top end of soverign . Tom ,Casey and Steve took off well with Tom and Casey having a good battle on the short section but once they hit the long run up to soverign Tom in his full rig just had too much boat speed although we thing when they crossed the line it might have been Casey on handican but I havnt done results yet . Steve cam in third a fair way back as apparently he was practicing hitting sandbanks and apparently he was successful four times so well done steve . Roger had a bad day with two early capsizes and considering he was only in board shorts and rash shirt he continued on and yes he agreed with us as he finished it was bloody freezing . Finally it was Lance then Trisha over the line and heading home . The  timing was perfect for finishing as it was just starting to get cool  and picking up the buoys was left to Ross as charlie didnt want to put our hands in the water as we were cold enough as it was . Finally dont forget all our racing sailors that the next club championship race is this sunday the 18th september !

Hi Everyone , There is not much to report from last weekend on either day with Adult learn to sail and coaching being cancelled cancelled on saturday and Sunday also being cancelled again due to strong wind warnings for Gold Coast Waters with sunday even worse than saturday with gusts at the club over 30 plus knots consistant and gusting 35 knots so not only was it not really safe to sail it was also past Insurance levels for even open racing which is only insured to 30 knots .
Just as a reminder to everyone regarding sailing activities especially for Sundays we always put notices on facebook and on the club webpage at 7.00 am for juniors , 9.00 am for training and 11.00 am for open racing or you can call the club and for those who register for juniors on saturdays you will recieve a text message early sunday morning .
So what did the morning crew do instead well we fitted new parts to the tera,s , cleaned motors , drilled holes , replaced rivets ( until we ran out ) and the biggest job of all was Kelly trying to explain our new card machine and how it works to me !!! with the big test next sunday so please be patient everyone .
Yepoon is only 12 days away so lots of planning going on and yes I wish I was going but at least Taylah ( green fleet ) and Charlie ( open fleet ) will be there giving advice and support .
Finally dont forget to wish Charlie luck tomorrow night as he is off to Australian Sailing Queensland for the awarding of Australian Sailing Instructor of the year he,s even wearing a suit ! so from me Charlie best of luck you deserve it mate
