Hi , Everyone , Its my first look at the new website format and I think it looks awesome , Simone has done a great job in giving our site a new look and all the photo,s certainly bring back memories of great times past . Over the last couple of weeks we have had visits from both Dominic and Tianna who both now are off shaping their futures through Uni and work , it was great to catch up with them both and watch them slip straight back in to their roles as Instructors and interact with the kids who accepted them into their teaching roles . Dont be strangers guys !
8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
After the previous weekend and its wild weather it was great to wake to blue skies and good winds which were just perfect for this early class . As usual we had a large turnout with 18 eager sailors signing on and going straight out to start rigging . Its great to see some of our young sailors bringing their friends along and taking them for a sail . Conditions were perfect with winds around 5/7 knots from the s/e which is perfect for this class , there were so many standouts on the day I hope I get them all ! firstly there was Jack and Dean our two littleistt sailors then Charlie and her friend plus Caiden who is off to 10.30 class actually I might as well say everyone went well oh except for Archie who tried to nose but the boom boom 1 Archie nil!
10.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
With the winds no building to around 7/10 knots with an occassional 12 knot gust we sent our hardy group of girls out in Abbey , Addy and Mary to practice better tacking and how to increase boat speed . Abbey just took off and was generally smashing the tacks and with a little bit of using my favourite saying of when in doubt let the sail out she was smoking around the course , of course the inevitable happened u guessed it she capsized and struggled a bit getting the laser up but then found out she could stand up making life easier until dad towed the boat back out into deeper water . Mary and Addy sailed together in a tera and after a slow start where tacki8ng as a team with good work on the mainsheet and coordination with the rudder turn it ceratinly looked good . They also had to use my phrase like Abbey to get the most out of the reaches but when they did they were flying around the course as well . Good work girls !!!
1.30 pm Open Racing ;
With a fleet of 12 lasers and one lonely Bic Peter and I set a course starting down at the canal with a good upwind to mark A set down at Runners with a couple of laps back to the start buoy then off up the Soverign Channel finally returning to the start to finish the race . Conditions were good with the winds settling around 15/16 knots e/s/e making for a busy start line but still a clean start well except for casey who hit the start buoy and had to do a penalty turn . Overall Tom got away in front with Peter Fell and Greg right behind and thats the way it stayed until you guessed it after rounding the last mark and heading for the finish Tom high sided and capsized letting Peter in front but recovering to beat Greg just over the line with the rest of the fleet close behind except for Charlie ( capsize ) and Brendan ( Capsize ) but no one beat our new racer Adrian in capsize whe are not sure how many capsizes he had as we gave up counting at 12 but at least he was out there giving it a go !.

Hi Everyone , Well there is not much to report from last weekend as Juniors were cancelled at 7.00 am and Racing was cancelled at 10.00 am .
Conditions on the day were some of the worst I have seen in a while with wind gust recorded at the seaway of 38knots and above and waves over a metre high in front of the club . We did however get a couple of juniors turn up and were a bit shocked when we said no sailing apparently it wasnt that windy so they thought !!
We had to venture out at one stage to lay a mooring anchor for Public Nuisance just to keep the wind from pushing her onto the pontoon so thank you to Rod Casey Andrew Ben Abby Dallas and pete for helping organise this pretty dificult job .
There was also some talk of going out the front just to have some fun with speedy reaches but none of us could afford to braek anything so common sense prevailed ! still it would have been fun !

Hi Everyone , As Christmas gets closer its time for two major Events on our 2017 calendar , the first one is our Try Sailing and Fundraiser Day on the 3rd of December where everyone can invite friends and family along to have a go at sailing while donating a $2.00 gold coint to the gold coast hospitals equipment fund . Secondly is our annual Xmas Party again this year being held at Paradise Point Bowls Club on Sunday the 10th of December where friends and family are invited to come along and catch up before the end of the year .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
With blue skies and light winds it was just perfect for our junior group of 16 sailors to get out there and enjoy the morning with winds from the n/n/w it was great to get back to manageable conditions . There were plenty of smiling faces with even Taine out there on his own sailing a tera as the conditions were perfect even if a few people drifted under the bridge and had to be towed back form the dark side . One rescue crew did get a bit bored and accidebntally spray water on people with the safety bucket but being a wet didnt matter in the end because all the crews were allowed to capsize in the end showing the general public walking past what true sailing fun is .
10.30 AM Sunday Juniors ;
We havnt been getting to many starters for this session of late but at least Abby and Addy are there and again due to the light conditions the were able to work on Gybes and boat speed essential for light winds . We set a triangle course so it was a bit tough at first but after some coaching around the marks the girls were happily sailing around the course and as the tide came in they even stopped running aground ! I died hear at the end of the day that Ollie has done an achilles tendon so he is out of sailing action for a while so take it easy Ollieas I know from experience that those injuries can be very painful.
1.30 pm Open Racing ;
It was a bit difficult setting a race course as the winds were tending east at around 5 knots and the outgoing tide was really starting to pick up speed . Pete and I set a L shaped course east then north so the start was especially difficult and with the Amark having the tide at right angles . The whole fleet had a good start but the person who read it the best was Greg who went right up north before tacking over and laying what turned out to be a very difficult top mark . Having set the course for five knots average of course the wind half way through the race doubled in strength so the lead boats were back in less than an hour with Greg and Tom continuing there usual battle and Steve bringing up third . With Pat ( broken arm ) Dallas ( blood poisoning from a mysterious bite ) and Charlie ( swollen fingers from trying to start the outboard ) Casey was assured of first ahd Brendan following in the radial and Dec holding down third ( and he didnt even hit and sandbanks this week!!!)

Hi Everyone , The weather finally after months of dry finally produced rain this week which was a welcome sight with the only draw back being it stopped work on Public Nuisance,s wrap job but as of yesterday the process has begun and she should be finished by the weekend .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
Sunday started well with warm water and light winds and with five new sailors included in our group of ten there was the usual chaos on the beach with people looking for a crew and boat but after some sorting everyone was off out the front and cruising around the reaching course in 6/10 knot n/w winds Addy and her crew had a bit of trouble as the conditions got windier and rougher as did a few of the Tera sailors with some capsizes and towing during the lesson . Our latest budding assistant instructors Abby and Ben Roake were in their element taking the new kids out for a sail but like everyone else they pulled the pin a bit early due to the ever increasing wind .
10.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
By 10.30 the conditions were really starting to get windier and choppier with the wind gusting around 15/17 knots . With only two sailors in Addy and Lewin willing to give the conditions a try and after a long discussion with me on how to sail the conditions we set them off out the front expecting some wild rides and the inevitable capsize . Lewin who has been away working sundays for the last couple of months was on the helm and Addy was crew and ballast? and after a bit of innitial hesitation they both really got into it with a lot of hiking out and absolutely screaming reaches which finally ended in a capsize when Lewin coming out of a tack missed the hiking strap and fell out backwards . All in all great sailing guys .
1.30 pm Open Racing ;
You guessed it conditions had really deteoriated
