Hi , Everyone , Its my first look at the new website format and I think it looks awesome , Simone has done a great job in giving our site a new look and all the photo,s certainly bring back memories of great times past . Over the last couple of weeks we have had visits from both Dominic and Tianna who both now are off shaping their futures through Uni and work , it was great to catch up with them both and watch them slip straight back in to their roles as Instructors and interact with the kids who accepted them into their teaching roles . Dont be strangers guys !
8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
After the previous weekend and its wild weather it was great to wake to blue skies and good winds which were just perfect for this early class . As usual we had a large turnout with 18 eager sailors signing on and going straight out to start rigging . Its great to see some of our young sailors bringing their friends along and taking them for a sail . Conditions were perfect with winds around 5/7 knots from the s/e which is perfect for this class , there were so many standouts on the day I hope I get them all ! firstly there was Jack and Dean our two littleistt sailors then Charlie and her friend plus Caiden who is off to 10.30 class actually I might as well say everyone went well oh except for Archie who tried to nose but the boom boom 1 Archie nil!
10.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
With the winds no building to around 7/10 knots with an occassional 12 knot gust we sent our hardy group of girls out in Abbey , Addy and Mary to practice better tacking and how to increase boat speed . Abbey just took off and was generally smashing the tacks and with a little bit of using my favourite saying of when in doubt let the sail out she was smoking around the course , of course the inevitable happened u guessed it she capsized and struggled a bit getting the laser up but then found out she could stand up making life easier until dad towed the boat back out into deeper water . Mary and Addy sailed together in a tera and after a slow start where tacki8ng as a team with good work on the mainsheet and coordination with the rudder turn it ceratinly looked good . They also had to use my phrase like Abbey to get the most out of the reaches but when they did they were flying around the course as well . Good work girls !!!
1.30 pm Open Racing ;
With a fleet of 12 lasers and one lonely Bic Peter and I set a course starting down at the canal with a good upwind to mark A set down at Runners with a couple of laps back to the start buoy then off up the Soverign Channel finally returning to the start to finish the race . Conditions were good with the winds settling around 15/16 knots e/s/e making for a busy start line but still a clean start well except for casey who hit the start buoy and had to do a penalty turn . Overall Tom got away in front with Peter Fell and Greg right behind and thats the way it stayed until you guessed it after rounding the last mark and heading for the finish Tom high sided and capsized letting Peter in front but recovering to beat Greg just over the line with the rest of the fleet close behind except for Charlie ( capsize ) and Brendan ( Capsize ) but no one beat our new racer Adrian in capsize whe are not sure how many capsizes he had as we gave up counting at 12 but at least he was out there giving it a go !.
