Hi Everyone, firstly if you haven't seen the Facebook post, Casey, Sienna, Dallas and Pat spent last weekend at Yachting Queensland attending the assistant sailing instructors course. I am proud to say that they all passed their tests and arrived back late Sunday with smiling faces and a better understanding of how they can help the Juniors on Sunday. Congratulations guys ! 8.30am Sunday Juniors With the young volunteers away at school and the weather as usual looking a bit iffy, it was a bit of a challenge getting some of the less experienced on the water, but we managed to sort everyone out and although there were quite a few capsizes, everyone seemed to have a great time. Tianna was again getting dragged behind boats and I was out with the with the kids with young Sophie on the main sheet (James daughter) hiking and wanting me to go faster. Aidan even tried to run us over with the jetski. 10.30am Sunday Juniors With the winds increasing some of the kids opted to sail two up. As the winds increased there were a few capsizes but also a lot of good fast sailing. Spencer was going well, and Brendan who was having his first real go in the Laser even managed to get our new tacking style down. not exactly perfect but at least he was trying. I better not forget Hado who has been sailing really well in the last couple of weeks, even lasting the whole session, well done mate ! Youth Racing With the winds now getting up there we sent Dan and Jess out together, and of course Jonah on his own. We set windward leeward for them which was a challenge especially at the roundings with some hairy bearaways and gybes . With the winds now around 18 to 20 knots and having them start with the adults it was certainly a busy start line and a difficult upwind but the all managed to make their way around the course and finish in around 40 minutes . Adult Racing With a small fleet on the water but great racing conditions the guys were lining up with 30 seconds to flag drop trying to get the best start . Tom was quick out of the blocks and looked good in the early stages but an unfortunate capsize allowed Peter to get in front and Tom said afterwards that he just couldn't catch him back up. Don't worry Tom, the new carbon section should make you even faster, but unfortunately wont prevent capsizes ! The guys had a pretty long race with the first boat home taking around one hour and thirty five minutes, so it was definitely a long race . Additional Notes Last year we ran a Youth Cup in June and we are hoping to do that again, we have approached last years sponsor and are just waiting for a reply before we post the dates for the event .
