8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
As I just said it was perfect conditions for junior sailing with winds based in the East and even with a low tide on the turn it was just the conditions needed for everyone to practice both crewing and steering , opps nearly forgot running aground as well ! Everyone really impressed me with their keen attitude especially in the class room with answering questions and getting the answers right which to me as an Instructor tells me they want to learn more . The girls impressed me with Addy , Ava showing good skills and Addy also showing me how she gybes one up in the boat , Laura also had a good sail just cruising around the bouys . All in all a great learning session by everyone .
10.30 Race Training :
With the winds settling in around 6 knots again basically easterly Andrew set up a triangle just to train the group for the day . The course was pretty stretched out and with both lasers and Bics out there it was a perfect day for learning their upwind skills . Both Kyle and I were out there working especially on the closehauled section showing them all to not tack at the leeward turning bouy but to sheet on and sail upwind until they were nearly level with the top mark then tacking and laying the mark in one go . Jonah of course just took off and with a little coaching so did everyone else generally managing to successfully complete the triangle course .
Open Racing 1.30;
With the winds no settling into a N/Easter around 12 knots and a building incoming tide conditions were perfect for racing . As Peter was away I set a course starting down near runners and setting mark A off ephriam and mark C in front of the club the course held a bit of everything with a solid upwind to A then good reaching / broad reaching to both B & C . The start was clean with no overs at the start even Tom was on the right side ! All in all everyone showed great racing skills especially Tom and Greg who swapped the lead several times before Tom managed to just get a break on the run back to the finish to hold Greg out with Ross then Andrew ( great recovery after capsizing early in the race ) Steve Russell Roger Casey and Ryan completing the course . Who didnt complete the course ? Dallas and Pat even though they sailed the 420 the best I have ever seen them do they do the broke the traveller and had to pull out with one lap to go BUGGER right boys !
