8.30 am Sunday Juniors
With cool conditions but blue skies and light winds it was a perfect morning for junior sailing but despite the conditions we only had two keen young sailors turn up for sailing . The wind was out of the n/w at around 0-3 knots so as a treat for the two keen sailors we sent them off on an adventure sail down to the canal and back with Jade and Daniel in charge the boys were keen to give it a go and everything was going well if not a bit slow on the way down but you guessed it the moment they turned around to head back up the wind just kept dying out but the boys kept trying and nearly made it back until sarah cooper had to assist them back to the beach , but well done boys good effort.
10.30 am Youth Training
Again with this group only a few of the team in the wetsuit twins Reece and Zach turned up for this session so as it was the midwinter cup the following weekend we just had a talk about light wind sailing tyhen set them off down to the canal and back which sounds pretty easy but you guessed it the wind although it had come up a bit kept dropping out and changing direction . Reece did manage to cope well but the other team members in Halle , Leila and Zach really struggled on the upwind so we firstly concentrated on Zach to get him going then I coached Leila and got her going and then we went to Halle which Charlie took over as truly my voice was getting very raspy . I have to say that although they all struggled at first they all stuck too it and managed to sail back to the beach and yep there was no towing so well done everyone ! We had a quick talk afterwards mainly focusing on what to expect next weekend which is looking very similar to sundays conditions .
1.30 PM Open Racing.
Luckily for everyone the wind had built by the time that the race started so we set the course in the main channel whit the start down at runners and the A mark half way up Soverign and the third mark in between Ephriam and Soverign . The tide was starting to ebb and the winds were around 6-10 knots Northerly with a little bit of shift so pretty much perfect . As usual Greg was away first with Peter , Casey , Roger and Trish close behind . Trisha had to pull out as she had forgotten her PFD and sail back to the club ( no Insurance ) which was a shame as it was perfect sailing weather . Greg soon went to the lead while Casey and Petre battled each other for second and third while Roger visited the sandbanks which soon had him a fair bit behind and unable to catch up , gotta keep away from the sandbars Rog! The finish was down wind and it turned out very interesting with Greg in the lead on one side of the channel and Casey and Peter on the opposite side , but as they got nearer to the finish Casey seemed to get more wind and really cut the distance between her and grer and with a final gust running down her side of the course she nipped greg at the line by 3 seconds and peter was right behind greg so really close racing.
