Firstly a reminder that memberships are due as at the first of july with renewal forms available on line or at the sailing office . The annual midwinter cup open to Bic skiff , Laser , Sabot and opti is only two weeks away and is always a great weekend with both racing and sailing fun with the focus on Green fleet sailing as most of our sailors are green fleet level . We are also for the first time holding as part of the event a tera race and fun sail on the sunday morning from 9am to noon , we decided on this addition so tha some of our sunday morning juniors can see what racing is all about while still having fun , Iam personally looking forward to it as I always like the fun bit of sailing .
As school holidays are approaching the club will as usual be holding school holiday sailing camps on the 26/27 june and 3/4 july , enrolment forms are available at the office or on line as numbers are limited .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
Well firstly we must be getting our name out there as we had three new juniors all the way from Miame Florida zach, sebestian and xavier signing on for their first ever go at sailing and thanks to Harvey and Reece who looked after them they all learnt the basics of sailing including steering in the light conditions , it will be interesting to see if they tack it up back in florida just have to watch out for alligators! The conditions were bright and sunny with a 3-4 know wind slowly coming in from the s/s/e so with Charlie , Jade and Daniel on safety boat duties a nice reach was soon set up and after a quick briefing everyone was soon under way well except for Emilio who forgot the rudder and started drifting in circles until the safety boat came over and sorted him out and away he went . TJ and jack didnt have the rudder far enough down at first but once they had that right they were away up until the unfortunate capsize that apparently was accidental ? With the american boys we finally got them out on the course sailing without instructors which just blew mum and dad away with lots of hooting from the shore .
11.00 Youth Racing
With some new sailors from our 10.30 training group signed on and our usual racing group we had a good group ready for our new earlier race day time . We had a short briefing regarding start line procedures and what angles they would be sailing on so what were they well from the start to A mark it was really closehauled but occassionally swung east and then they returm was basicall a broadreach with sails off which seemed to catch a few people out because they didnt let the sail out the boat either went really slow or self gybed and capsized right Halle ? There were also a few visits to the sand banks near the club but a quick jump out and turn the boat around soon had everyone going . Torsen and Zach had a good race fighting for 2nd and 3rd which Zach was winning when a moments lapse in concentration meant he fell out of the bboat and Torsen got in front but they still sailed well . The girls all sailed well completing the course even if they were a bit behind but its early days for them . On course duties on the day went to Jade and Daniel who followed everyone around the course and giving advice mainly the standard pull the sail on , let the sail off and get out and turn the boat around so well done guys Charlie and I enjoyed being on shore for a change watching the fleet.
