8.30 Sunday Juniors ;
I had a lot of text messages early on Sunday and I not only described the conditions but I even posted them on facebook . For this class the wind was around 6 knots from the south so we set a reach across the channel , It didnt look to difficult but with a strong current heading north everyone had a visit under the bridge which kept both Kyle and I busy towing everyone under the bridge back to our side . There were a few swims into the cold water ( which I did warn everyone about ? ) which put a look of shock on everyones face as they fell in , maybe now they might listen when I tell them at the briefing that they should put a club wetsuit on .
10.30 Sunday Juniors ;
With the wind getting up around 10/12 knots it was actually perfect for this group but again there were a lot of boats going under the bridge and again being towed back . Declan really got his boat flying in a few of the 15 knot gusts so much so that he ripped both the traveller jammer and hiking strap fitting off the boat . Cody had rig trouble ( didnt check his boat !) Kaleb was to busy with his go pro which probably only showed his capsizing and Abbey capsized and drifted under the bridge and again without a wetsuit was immediately frozen . All in all an eventful session .
Open Racing ; With conditions building up to around 16/18 knots Peter and I decided to only have one leg in the Soverign Channel and spend the rest in the inner channel were we thought it wouldnt be as windy ! With 9 boats at the start it was pretty brisk from the start as the headed from the start line down toward Runners then off into the Soverign channel and you guessed it the winds increased to 25knots and gusty . Everyone went for a swim with the most spectatular being Peters with one on the best down wind slap overs I have seen in a while , even Pete thought it was good . I have to say one competitor didnt capsize and you wont believe it because it was Pat and it wasnt good luck it was very smart sailing and some good luck that got him home first in the 4.7 and Greg home first in the Radials , great effort everyone !
Easter Break ; Just a reminder that the club will be closed on Easter Sunday
Our Sailing camp last Monday / Tuesday was cancelled due to strong winds but this Thu / Fri camp and next Mon/Tue camp are definitely running
Cu on the water
