This weekend as part of Easter celebrations we are going to have some easter fun with plenty of easter eggs as prizes for the best costume and probably some on water antics just to help enjoy the easter break thanks to the mums in the canteen who are organising everything , should be lots of fun!
8.30 juniors was well attended considering the school holidays had started and people were headfing off on holidays . Jack and Dean were back again with Jack again helping our instructors by taking people sailing . Conditions were perfect with light south to south east winds and sunny skies so everyone had a chance to enjoy themselves and learn more . Max was having trouble tacking and also holding the mainsheet and tiller extension at the same time so he came to me for some help and although he hasnt quite mastered it he is getting there ( dont forget the practice with the broom handle and a piece of rope mate !!). Taylah moved the marks as the wind went more east just to keep the reaching course going while charlie and daniel buzzed around the fleet in the yellow boat giving sailing tips as well .
10.30 youth training was a challenge with a course to the green channel marker then over to the yellow at the canal and then back down to the original reaching course from juniors . With our newest open bic sailors in Reece and Harvey joining in the bics that includied Jade and Daniel were soon off around the course with Harvey showing that he learnt heaps about upwind sailing at the states not far behind , Reece sailed well and was much better upwind but still had trouble with the bearaway causing the occassional capsize , but undaunted he was soon bagk up and off again. Taylah has also really improved her upwinds ( no luffing ) and although her gybes are still at bit shaky at least now she isnt capsizing , The winds were around 6/8 knots e/s/e so perfect for the day .
1.30 pm racing was well attended again with twelve boats lining up at the start with the winds a solid 8 knots still e/s/e and an incoming tide most everyone lined up at the pin end for a starboard start well except for the two bics who threaded the fleet on port and actually did well avoiding boats and actually getting a good start mid fleet . The upwinds were a bit of a slog withy the a mark down near runners on the soverign side of the channel and then a couple of returns to the start line which provided some interesting gybes and yes capsizes ( sorry chris I had to mention it !) The top mark proved an extra challenge when Trisha hooked it and sailed off to the beach but thanks to jade telling us we were soon up there and grabbed the buoy and returned it to its place perfectly ???? . Nick was going well against Tom but made a slight blunder by t5hinking they were finishing whiloe in the lead but to be fair he was late and missed the briefing been there and done that myself .Thanks t5o Kelly as well for the great footage that was posted on facebook it looked awesome !
Dont forget everyone Sunday is Easter dress up day plenty of easter egg prizes I might even enter as chocolate is one of my favourite diet foods
