Hi Everyone , Well what a big first few days back after my break in Sydney with Friday and Saturday catching up with club work and organising everything for the Bunnings Barby and of course the first sail for our Junior sailors on the Sydney 32 on Sunday . Thanks to Pieter , Pete , Charlie B , Pat , Trisha for volunteering to help with Bunnings which I can now tell everyone that it was the best fundraising event financially the club has ever had with nearly $1,200.00 raised on the day .

8.30am Sunday Juniors

With blue skies but as usual not a lot of wind we had a couple of new guys and around 8 keen sailors out there in very light winds. Rowan and Hallam had the right idea early with Hallam up the front paddling the Open Bic so that at least they could work against the outgoing tide . With Paul having his first go at Sunday Juniors driving Sarah Cooper he did more towing than coaching as did I in Rescue 1 ( banana boat ? ) with a bit of towing fun thrown in . We did manage to have some wind so at least they all managed to get a little actual sailing in .

10.30am Sunday Juniors

With the light winds from the early class deserting us it was decided that we should pile everyone on to Sarah Cooper and go in search of the Sydney 32 ( Onyx ) with the race crew on board for their first sail . We found them at the top of Sovereign just pulling the sails up and having their first real sail . It was a bit crowded on board with 8 juniors and three adults but from all reports everyone settled down to a team effort while our boys and girls watched on in absolute awe at the size of the boat and how it sailed . Was their any sailing yes but only a couple of people went out with Lewin showing the way in the Bic .

Open Racing

With all the 4.7 people away on Onyx we only had five starters competing in two short races as the wind was at times very light but then would settle in to around 6/8 knots . It was good seeing Russel back after boat and trailer troubles recently and we even had Michael Murdock out there but it definitely wasn't a good day for 4.7 laser sailors with dead spots everywhere and an incoming tide where at least the adults were using full rig sails to catch as much of the flukey winds as possible .

Additional Notes

Tianna caught up with race results yesterday and the outcome is very interesting ! have a look on the board on the weekend .

Upcoming Events :
  • We are looking at a Junior Tera team regatta on the 11th of September with a flyer just being discussed at the moment .
  • Masters Games in November is creating even more interest than 2014 so if you are over 35 and have some spare time sign up and give it a go !
