8.30 am Sunday Juniors
Well as usual the girls outnumbered the boys again with 10 sailors signing on for this class 8 of which were girls so it must mean the girls are tougher in the cold weather right boys!
Conditions were perfect with light s/w winds that were slowly turning south just a pity the safety boat crew ( charlie & Taylah ) didnt see the change as the set the course luckily we saw it from shore and managed to get them to change the buoy positions so everyone wasnt trying to sail into the no sail zone ?
So who did well on the day well I have to say everyone because everyone sailed well including one capsize but the girls werent in the water for long and soon had their boat up and running . We did a little session on shore with Ross showing the group how to tack the way we all do which is a bit difficult at first but once they all get it they will be off and running especially the ones going off to yepoon and yes I did see some of them trying the new manouvre on the water slightly messy but at least they were trying.
10.30 am Youth Training
To all the sailors in this group as soon as they all heard that we were doing rules first they were all so excited they couldnt wait to get to the class room , well I would like to think that but I have my doubts ! So what rule did we discuss ( RULE 20 room to tack at an obstruction ) Jade even pulled out her blue book of sailing just to make sure she got it right , its an interesting rule which like a lot of sailing rules is somewhat open to interperation and yes next week there will be another one . On the water we just sent everyone down to the yellow x at runners then back to green near the club and with the winds around 6/8 knots east it was perfect especially as it swung s/e . We even had Harveys dad Guy and Daniels Dad Scott out there giving it a try now all we need is to convince them both to actually hike out so they can generate more boat speed and keep up with their kids
1.3O Open Racing
With Taylah and Charlie in of course setting you guessed it we were running late for the start well they are teenagers right ? and with the winds out of the n/e east at a good 8 knots we set the start line down at runners and the top mark at the top of soverign and B mark in the channel between Ephriam and Soverign . The start was hotly contested with Ross arriving a couple of seconds early and having to run down the line while most of the group was right on time including Jade and Daniel who had awesome starts . Again Scott and Guy were out for practice and Scott nearly caused Taylah to have a heart attack as he nearly took Adrian out barging at the start yes it was her boat he sailed . We also had a new member of the Open Bic team out there in Harvey ( 9years old ) yes sailing with the open fleet although we did shorten the course a bit for him but Iam sure he enjoyed it considering the smile on his face . There was also a bit of controversy on the day as we had a racing umpire on the start boat and let me tell you no one was getting away with sloppy roundings he pulled up Tom Matt and Ross for touching the mark although I did have to overrule his decision on Roos as although it was close he didnt touch so watch racers I think Reece ( harveys younger brother ) enjoyed giving penalties so Iam saying he will be back again to keep you all honest , Oh and by the way Casey won over Tom and yes she was in a radial and Tom a full rig great racing everyone
