8.30 am Sunday Juniors ; With westerly winds predicted I was looking forward to a perfect morning for the juniors to practice their skills .
As usual the day dawned with blue skies and N/W/N winds around 6 knots and maybe the occassional change to west just to confuse people .
After some innitial towing and pushing boats back up to the sailing area in front of the club the winds settled in and everyone just cruised around the course . There were the usual collisions luckily at low speed where people werent looking when tacking right Taine? Charlie improves each week as does Ava and really everyone on the water as conditions are always very light giving everyone time to learn to not only keep the sail working but to work on the innitial challenge of steering .
10 .30 am Sunday Juniors ; With the winds now up around six knots but with a rushing outgoing tide it was a challenge for everyone to sail their course but with a bit of coaching everyone managed to master the conditions . Caleb in the bic was concentrating on the marks in an effort to show me that he can sail well enough to jump into a laser and if he continues with last Sundays effort he is not far away from a swap . Ollie went well with his new haircut in his bic and Addy just continues to go forward with the help of her coach Casey . Declan is definitely up to giving racing a go very soon and after speaking with Jonah we have decided to set a course specifically designed for open bic in the 1.30 racing as he needs the on water practice as he is off to Yepoon to race there soon .
Open Racing 1.30 pm ; With the winds swinging now to the n/e at around 10 knots Peter and I decided to give everyone a racie in the soverign channel . We set a mark at the top of Soverign and a mark at the top of Ephriam and the start line just north of runners . With the last of the outgoing tide it was perfect for a start with everyone getting a good start in a close bunch . Charlie learnt that in sundays conditions its better to come at the line with speed that way you dont get swamped by everyone else . Casey and Pat had a good race with a couple of lead swaps before she managed to get a break and come over the line first with Pat second , Charlie third and Ryan fourth with Brendan stuck in the middle in the radial .
Tom got away again with Greg and try as he might just couldnt bridge the gap coming in second and John T third . Russell was doing well but stopped to check a crab pot or he hit the sand back or depending which story sounds the best and the dark horse Steve just cruising through . Simone says she is coming to grips with my boat and sailed faster than the week before .
Upcoming ;
Maintenance day on Saturday the 19th of August starting a 8.00 am . We use these days to fix damaged gear on the boats and carry out general maintenance on the club so if you can spare some time come along and help keep our club active
