Our new safety boat that has been sitting in the shed since arriving will be getting a check over by our marine mechanic next week , why so long ? well just too busy it will be great to finally having it on the water mainly for Race starts .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
We last sunday was an absolute turn around from saturday which was just terrible with no wind and lots of rain then going to beautiful blue skies and reasonable winds . We had a good group of sailors ( 10 ) and as usual mainly girls signing on for a morning sail . As Taylah was away looking at Universities I took the class and I was very surprised at the level of knowledge everyone showed especially in question time regarding boat parts , wind directions and wind speed on the day which meant we were soon on the water . We set a course to suit the w/n/w winds were at around 5 knots and with Jason and Guy in charge on water we soon had everyone launched and cruising around the track . Laya who again was i in a Bic,s was soon getting her bic up to speed but like most of the girls didnt gybe which they were told to try so next week girls we are going to push gybing . Zack was the only one gybing and looks like he is ready for an upgrade to the bic so maybe one more week in the Tera then we might give him a go in the bic .
10.30 am Youth Training
As usual we had a briefing on rules mainly on room to tack and when to tack and with Jade consulting her rule book everyone went well so lets hope some of it stays there fingers crossed . So what is next weekends 10.30 rule discussion going to be Iam thinking start flags as its important to know as not all clubs use the same startin secuence . Ross got his wish with us doing start practice which was mainly won by Jade or Daniel , Ross stuffed up and broke his carbon tiller so had to borrow a sloppy fitting club one which still didnt help his starts with a couple of too earlies and a couple of too lates . Harvey was best in green fleet with his manouvering towards the start line getting much better and his boat speed improving each week . Guy went out as well and got a cheer when he capsized and Jason even got photographic proof and yes we gave him a cheer . Tristan occassionally got a bit off course especially when we sent everyone off to the canal so Tris remember you have to get your butt on the new side faster when tacking maybe we should look at your tacking technique before yepoon?
1.30 pm Open Racing
As it wasnt a race weekend as they are the first and third sundays a few of the guys just went for a practice sail down to runners but when they were coming back they all struggled against the current which was quite strong on the outgoing tide . Our youth sailors just had a muck around with Taylah sailing Jades boat and yes she fitted but sadly didnt capsize which we were all counting on and Jade and Daniel sailed Taylahs laser but they were sitting so far down the back the boat was nearly stalled so you two its just like a Bic sit forward going upwind in light winds ?
Ok so remember Open division racers its the third weekend of the month next weekend so racing is on !
