Hi Everyone ,
What a great weekend with blue skies and good winds on Saturday and the same on Sunday with a little less wind early and building as the day progressed.
Junior Sailing Sunday morning started with 9 hardy Junior sailors arriving for the first session with perfect conditions for our younger sailors to improve their skills. Congratulations to Riley, Ryan, Spencer and Noah who all improved their taking skills with a bit of in water and on water coaching from Pieter and Me. (Yes it was chilly standing in the water for 50 minutes !!!) I have to also thank India who took a new sailor out with Sienna and showed them both the right way to tack and sail a good course. | Junior Racing Firstly, apparently, all the parents on the shore were totally amazed at one persons ability to persevere in light winds in the race training group. Yep that person was me. Apparently my patience is becoming legendary? Fair enough, the winds were shifting and intermittent, but come on boys how many times did I say either pull it on or let it off. One good thing happened and that was young Nick (the brick) won his first race! Must have pulled the sail on and then let it off. Well done Nick ! ************************** | Club Racing The Club races on Sunday were held in very different conditions with race one in virtually a drifter. Michelle come out as victor although there was some talk of getting ASADA involved as she was 4 minutes in front of the second place??? The second place could have been anyone's as several boats nearly crossed the line only to have the wind drop out and drift back with the current. In race Two, luckily, the Weather Gods smiled on us with a wind shift to the East and increased to around 8 knots. That race was completed in under forty minutes with everyone smiling over the finish line. First in Race Two was Chris followed by Peter and John. |
Our two upcoming events, the Bunnings fundraising barby ( Sat 1st June ) and the Open Bic Regatta ( 28th / 30th June ), are coming together but we are still looking for volunteers to help out. The Bic Regatta it is the biggest event by far on the calendar so any and all help will be appreciated. Just check with the club if you want to volunteer some time. |
