Autumn Series - Race 7 /26-05-13/ & the rest

Hi Everyone ,

Another fine weekend after a patchy week weather wise The winds were strong on Saturday forcing a couple of cancellations but turned around on Sunday with ideal conditions all day.

Junior Sailing

Again we had a group of nine junior sailors heading out on the water with the winds between 3 to 7 knots.

We had a bit of early drifting until the wind settled from the south and then everyone got going and had some fun sailing.

A special thanks goes to India and Sienna 2 for taking young Sam out for her second sail and showing her how to use the main sheet.

Big welcoming HELLO to two new boys Dallas and Mitchell who despite some early wild manoeuvres actually started sailing straight lines.

Yes, I did stand in the water again but this Sunday I had more warm clothes on!

Junior racing

All the usual subjects in the boys group turned up ready to race on the day with a new starter in Finn. Even he will admit, he was left a bit overawed by the speed of the boys around the course.

I have yet to view the video which should reveal some interesting mark rounding?

I noticed young Charlie has worked out how to not knock his hat off when tacking:  he leaves his hat off !!! One day Charlie you will finally admit my way is better.

Last but not least our youngest racer LUKA sailed the best he has ever sailed since getting his own boat, all put down to looking where he was going and not sitting on his feet. Well done Luka.

Club Racing - Race 7

We had good conditions by the time racing started with winds from 8 to 15 knots. That made everyone so excited they forgot about the tide at the start line resulting in a general recall, the first one in a long time. Sorry everyone I could see it was inevitable with 30 seconds to go with Thomson winning the award for first over, most of the fleet right behind him. Here is the proof:
For some more "breathtaking" action check these two clips. Thanks Mike B for making and uploading them.
RESTART
FIRST GYBE
Its also nice to see that my training strategy is working fine with Michelle giving her excuse at the start line just in case she sailed slow. As luck would have it, she did sail slow with a nice Gybe rounding capsize due to a mainsheet rigged without the boom saddle (a lesson well learned).

The winner on the day was Jackson from TSS who once he got in front never stopped working the boat all the way to the finish line. Finally George Morton has achieved one of his sailing goals by finishing the race sailing backwards over the line. Don’t forget the coaches on the finish boat who got you there.
__________________________________________________________________ Our Bunnings barbeque is on this Saturday, so if you have a need to visit Bunnings (and who wouldn’t) drop in and buy a sausage and have a chat. These are usually great days. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help on the day. Lets hope its a good day financially for the club.

Midwinter cup

Its' getting closer with the committee really getting serious with the behind the scene organization of the whole event, which by the way is massive, but definitely on track. We have a new member in Barry Tyler who has taken on the role of secretary and canteen coordinator, so we get the minutes emailed each week. He is also working closely with Pieter and Gordana to make sure the canteen works smoothly buy covering all the bases now. Excellent work guys and girls.
