Autumn Series Race 8 /02-06-13/ and the week it was

Hi Everyone,

Well another week gone, one event over and one more getting closer.

Firstly thank you to everyone who helped out with the Bunnings Barby on Saturday.

It turned out a great day with reasonable weather and some funny jokes between the crew. Special thanks to Riley and Ryan who, although they could barely see over the counter, were selling plenty of drinks to the hungry customers sometimes whether they wanted one or not.

The next event, the O'pen BiC Midwinter Cup, is starting to take a formal shape (check the link on the club website) with the committee slowly but surely getting all the logistics in place.  The cup Committee meets every Friday and volunteer numbers are slowly growing. If you have decided you want to volunteer at the event ( 28-30 June), either email me on ppscinc@bigpond.com or download the volunteering form and send me the completed copy.

Sunday Juniors

We, again, had a group of 9 hardy sailors on Sunday morning with wind speeds from nil to finally around 6 knots.

A special surprise on the day was young India coming to me wanting to know if she could have a go in the Bic Regatta which of course I said yes to. So, as part of her initiation to the Bic, we sent her out solo, and, I must admit, we thought she would capsize but instead she made it look easy.

Don't forget India when you return from Sydney, Bic training is on Saturdays at 10 .00 am.

As part of the training group we also have a few of the Oxley kids joining as well, which should help not only them prepare for the event but also our kids too.

Junior Racing

Junior racing is alive and well with 7 sailors turning up ready to race, with winds gusting to around 12 knots and shifting.

It made for difficult conditions with the odd capsize including Luka's usual face plant into the water (it only happens Luka when you sit on your feet?)

Thanks to George Morton for making everyone adhere to the rules with penalties being strictly adhered too. I believe there was very little complaining on the decisions which again is good training for the regatta.

Despite his face plant Luka nearly lapped the fleet in the final race with the rest at times trying too hard and paying the penalty with the odd swim.

On a personal note, I have to say, compared to a couple of weeks ago it's the best sailing I have seen so far, so congratulations to you all for a great effort.
Club Racing

Racing was held in shifty and gusty conditions followed by holes and knocks which all in all made for good racing with positions changing regularly during the course of the race. Some people realized they had probably chose the wrong sail ( 4.7 ), but the conditions were so variable it was hard to choose.

It was a good win for Mark with Peter second and Chris third. Thanks to the people who, being a bit early at the start, for coming back on their own accord. I also believe a good lesson may have been learnt by a couple of our younger sailors with gear failure before and during the race. I think it might pay to instead of rolling around in the grass have a second look over the boat. It just might be a better idea!
Here are some photos of the race and the clip of the start, all thanks to Mike B, who this time managed NOT to erase the photos before they got published.  More in the GALLERY.
