We are getting ever closer to Christmas so as usual life in general is becoming very hectic with parties, presents and holidays being planned so don’t forget to put the 15th of December in for our open day and then sailors Christmas Party. It should be a great day so come along and meet your fellow sailors.
Sunday Juniors 8.30; Sunday dawned minus rain to a patchy day with 20knot winds predicted and slight swell. We managed to set our early learners out sailing two up due to the winds around 10 knots and gusty. Most had a few problems with the odd capsize and drifting backwards but one boat stood out and that was Cobey (better known as buttercup who with his crew of two sailed the best out of the fleet even though they did have a capsize. Our new sailor (4 weeks) Jasmine again sailed well on her own and I don’t think it will be long before she moves up to 10.30 class, we are going to look at upgrading her tacking style to racing standard as I think that will be the ultimate destination for her.
Sunday Juniors 10.30;
Open Bic Racing;
By the time that the O'PEN BIC were supposed to race conditions were so bad we didn’t even send out our crash test dummy (Dylan) as it was a hands down he wouldn’t make it, somehow I thing he was quite relieved on that decision.
Open Racing;
Conditions were nearly un-sailable with winds gusting to around 25 knots so it was a skippers decision and yes they all decided to have a go! To keep everyone close to the club we set a short triangle course just down to the first canal. At the start most people were late as the wind was so noisy they didn’t hear the start horn so there were quite a few late starters. Conditions then worsened to where the wind was gusting to over thirty knots which made the gybe mark quite dangerous with everyone being very cautious but the broad reaches were spectacular. Most of the fleet ended up pulling out with only four boats out of the original twelve finishing and yes even they were capsizing . All in all it was a wild day hopefully not to be repeated for some time even I was exhausted and I didn’t even sail.
C U all at next weeks marathon final race for 2013
