8.30 am Sunday Juniors :
With winter finally here although it wasnt as cold as saturday morning numbers were low again so the boys who did turn up got a virtual private lesson where we worked on tacking in the shallows and yes the water was cold but they did well so with Daniel in charge of Sarah Cooper we soon sent them off on the water . Oscar picked up tacking well and was soon really cruising around the reaching course while TJ struggled at first mainly accidentally gybing so we brought him back to the beach and corrected his steering by getting him to put the tiller extension beside his leg so it was easy push and pull . The wind was southerly at around 6/7 knots so it was just perfect for a reaching course and with the occasional gust the boys were soon just cruising around the course so well done boys and good listening.
10.30 am Youth Group :
After a big weekend the week before with the midwinter cup everyone was keen to get on the water , I decided to set a triangle course just so everyone could practice their gybes, bearaways and tacks and in general you could certainly see the difference from what everyone learned the previous weekend well except Halle who sailed to far south were the wind was stronger near the canal and kept stalling out until charlie decided to tow her back before she reached the seaway. Last weeks winners in Gemma , Harvey and Zach all sailed well with good course angle selections in what was now around 6/9 knot winds . we had the gybe near the beach at the club so that we could watch everyones gybes with Harvey just nailing them and Gemma as well while Zach and Tristan ( captain capsize ) always managed to stay upright and sail off to the next buoy . Even Leila gave the gybes a go even though she doesnt like them but as was probably inevitable I suppose in her last gybe she was hit by a gust and capsized and from the look on her face it was cold in the water especially when you arent wearing a wetsuit? Tristan ended up in the water as well toward the end so he took the good option and sailed straight to the sand and walked back , yes he was wearing a wetsuit .
1.30 pm open racing
With quite a few sailors away and Casey deciding not to sail because of the cold Greg and Steve just went for a training run down south but even they didnt last long , apparently it wasnt the wind strength (14-18 k ) but it was more the wind chill being a southerly so off the snow so they were back early which just meant and early day for all the volunteers , no complaints there .
