Hi Everyone , I hope everyone is surviving with our current covid rules in queensland but at least we are still open for business unlike NSW , I have family down there and yes they are doing it tough but as they say it has to be done so good luck NSW ! We will be having a movie crew in Paradise Point in a couple of weeks and you will see plenty of Marques and trucks in the park next to the club and plenty of people wandering around the club as they are using our outside area for catering and equipment storage . So whats the movie about well its about Jessica Watsons solo around the world sailing adventure which is ironic as I used to be her sailing instructor in her junior years when I worked at SYC she is a great person and has a great family so I hope the movie does well.. I just want to also mention the volunteers in the canteen they do a great job every week and I think they deserve a nod for their efforts at keeping our club financial.
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
OK yes it was a bit nippy early but with our usual blue skied start to the day it soon warmed up well on land at least the water temp was a different matter yep still cold even with a wetsuit on . Tristan was back from suspension so capsizing was back on the menu and if you want to know why he was suspended you will have to as Tristan . Harvey and Reece were first in and were soon rigged and ready as was Tristan and with a n/n/w wind around 4 knots yes 4 knots no the predicted 20 knots Jason set a reaching course nearly all the way to ephriam which had Reece a bit worried at first but he was soon sailing around both marks with the other guys and just cruising . Tristan was ok at first then his nickname ( captain capsize ) took over and was constantly capsizing until he got too cold and had to be towed in . There was also a different boat out there with some of the youth sailors giving a two sail boat a go and they all did quite well especially after they shut the bailer ?
10.30 am Youth Training
Well this group had a mix as well with Jade , Daniel and Taylah deciding to sail the pacer while ross and abbs sailed lasers . The wind was still light so it was basically a bit of cruising before we start getting ready for Yepoon . With Jade,Dan and Taylah it meant that Scott and Charlie had a chance to do the latest Open Bic rig upgrades on Jades and Daniels Bics now all we have to do is show them how to use them ! What upgrades well they cna now adjust the outhaul easier and they have changed the block system on the cunningham and vang , I found the upgrades interesting as when we first got the boats we realised we needed to change those fittings but once Open Bic australia saw them they made us change them back just like our longer tiller extensions which are now legal as well , I suppose its true good changes does take time .
Finally HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABBY ROAKE FOR LAST MONDAY !!!

1.30 PM open racing ;
we only had a small group for racing as we were missing most of our youth group due to a sleep over at abbys for her birthday and as most parents know they dont sleep they just stay up all night and end up tired and cranky by lunch time the next day , as soon as I saw them all in the morning I could see they werent going to make the day out. With westerlies now prevelant we set a course starting at the top of ephriam and a turning mark over toward runners , it didnt sound to hard a course but with a combination of wind shifts and 10/12 knot bullets it was certainly a challenge . The start was exciting with heaps of wind and everyone coming in on a reach but they were all outdone by Ross who cracked the line right on the hooter and was doing well in the 4.7until his rudder pin popped out at the gybe mark causing him to capsize , It got to much for John B and Maurie and the pulled out lap three leaving Greg Tom Matt and Ross , Greg got away early with Tom close behind until right in front of us he capsized he did a perfect tack to go back up the course hiked out in a good gust and as soon as he did that the wind just stopped and over he went so yes typical westerlies . Greg came in first with Tom second and Matt third but they were all shot duck as it was definitely hard work on the day.
