Sunday Juniors 8.30 class ;
Despite the winter chills setting in with the sea conditions getting colder and the winds general tending South adding to the cool conditions we are still attracting a solid group of beginners and first timers to this early class . The wind last Sunday was around 6/8 knots from the e/s/e creating excellent conditions for this class . Some of the crews had some difficulty with the winds but as usual we had Pat , Casey and Charlie to jump in and help where needed . Addy sailed her Bic alone for the whole lesson and looked quite comfortable so much so she signed up for the Bendigo Bank Youth Cup in two weeks time . Oh yeah Tain fell out again !
Sunday Juniors 10.30 Training Class ;
With the Bendigo Bank Cup only two weeks away we decided on practicing race starts using a simple reaching course starting off Public Nuisance and running to a mark south about 150 mtrs . Everyone seems to be coming to grips with the start procedures with Hado showing great improvement ( just need to work on tacking next Sunday ) and Declan absolutely flying alongside Jonah in the Bic . Abby didnt train due to her getting delivery of her own laser so she was out with Dad learning the ropes literally now all her dad has to do is learn how to duck in a 4.7 ? apparently the boom hurts ! After some practice starts we finally sent everyone down to the yellow mark at the canal where Jonah and Declan had fun power reaching .
Open Racing 1.30 ;
With the winds building to around 15/18 knots and the rain setting in it was only a small group of keen sailors who elected to brave the conditions .
We decided to start everyone at the club pontoon then head off to runners before heading up the Soverign channel for a couple of laps in a really good breeze . Unfortunately Casey was over at the start ( 1 boat lenght ) so she had to start at the back of the field after a recall even Pat had a shocker . Peter and I followed the fleet to A mark well we think we did as by the time we got there it was raining so heavily we generally couldnt see !!! Everone relished the reaches down the soverign side and even the work back up was great to watch especially the battle between Dallas ( 4.7 ) and Steve ( radial ) which continued throughout the whole race with Steve just beating him over the line . Pat learnt that to much pumping with a leaky boat results in a capsize allowing Casey to come home second . Great racing everyone !!!
