Hi Everyone , As you have all been informed that our annual Mid Winter Cup was cancelled last weekend and the main reason that it was cancelled was just simply due to lack off numbers which made running the event not financially viable . In regards to this cancellation we are now looking at running the event on the gold coast show weekend in august but we just have to do some research on whether their are any other major sailing events on that same weekend and hopefully if not then we may be able to generate enough numbers to run a successful event.
With no Regatta last weekend we decided to have a club clean up day where we did building maintenance , powerboat maintenance , sailing boat maintenance and general repairs , its amazing how much junk you can find in a clean up so much in fact that we ended up with two full ute loads for the recyclers and thanks to darren for supplying his ute as the second vehicle as the club truck was soon full . We even had time to wish Daniel a happy 15th Birthday with cake and yes it was my favourite CHOCOLATE !!! Greg and Matt looked after the outside and the mezzanine so that you can actually find things up there while Taylah was put in charge of re sorting the shelves while the rest of us just went round in circles cleaning sorting and storing and just a word of warning Jade has put all the PFD,s and helmets in size order and she has vowed to make sure everyone puts everything back in its rightful place and I should know as I was the first one in trouble for putting one in the wrong spot sorry Jade I promise to try better from now.
Just as a final note please keep an eye on the weather for next weekend as rain is predicted again plus strong winds but you know mother nature she can be very fickle !
Holiday sailing camp
with only a small group of keen sailors booked in but with absolutely perfect light conditions including blue skies we soon had everyone on the water in what was basically n/w winds around 1/5 knots . Most of the boys and girls were from our sunday morning group so they were all keen to learn how to st5eer and tack so while Jade and I were teaching from the shallows Taylah and Dan were on Sarah Cooper keeping them going once they were on the water and yes it was cold standing in the water practicing tacking with them . On tuesday conditions were not as favourable so we took everyone up to the Soverign Isand bridge and checked it out and decided we would sail there using the instructors to take people out so they didnt miss their sailing . Ross did a great job even though he capsized early taking everyone for a turn then Daniel took a  few as well and jade who has never sailed lasers before especially in winds from 8- 15 knots had a go but wasnt impressed as apparently lasers go really fast !!! when the gusts hit. We did finish early due to the conditions becoming really cold and everyone pulling out and I must admit even with 5 layers I was also getting cold . So whyat did we do after lunch well Taylah had them all play a game called how mush sailing gear can you pick up and then hang on the rack and it was actually a brilliant idea as normally most of it gets left for us to pick up . The final activity was from Ross and Daniel and involved the funniest game of touch footy and with me as video and sideli8ne ref there were unfortunately a lot of penalties awarded against Ross and Dan from video replay and although they still think they won the general consus was the the juniors gave them a pasting so well done kids !
Camp 2 next week is filling fast so if you want to join in the fun contact the sailing office .The cost for two days is $110.00 p/p and booking is essential !
