8.30 AM SUNDAY JUNIORS
This group has never ceased to amaze us since re opening last year with the numbers of return sailors and first timers being generally consistant at around 18 students per week and with people like Tristan taking the challenge and trying the Bic skiff for the first time on Sunday and from all reports doing well and everyone else generally sailing the easterly course well it was only up to me and Torin to check out the first timers in capsize and tacking although we did have help from Conor who did the early steering with a couple of newbies for me while Torin worked with the other boat . Charlie said that everyone sailed well on the day with both tacking and gybing on the cards in the 3/5 knot easterly winds . Even the pack up was good at the end with everyone pitching in except for Charlie failing to organise the tera,s being lifted back on their trailer ! dont forget Charlie if the sailors dont lift them we have to at the end of the day .
10.30 am Youth Training:
Well this group comprising of Abby Taylah Jade Daniel Kaia and Ross is really coming along and with Taylah in her new race boat the competition amongst the lasers will get stronger as with the Bic skiff as more people come through from the 8.30 class to join jade and Daniel . We sent everyone off down to runners for some close reach and broad reach practice and everyone sailed well . Jade and Daniel were cruising with Jade and her experience showing with better boat speed and Abby just outdoing Taylah which I think will become more competitive as Taylah gets used to the new boat .
1.30 PM Open Racing :
With the winds settling into the n/e at around 6-8 knots and with an absolutely roaring outgoing tide we set a start line done near runners and made it a triangle course with a couple of windward leewards thrown in for good measure . Pete had agreat plan to come up and sit at the start buoy but unfortunately all his friends came up and sat around him and then just before the start Greg comes in calling everyone up wich sent everyone over the start line but luckily the were all dragged back before the start horn with most of them tangled together it looked pretty funny especially with the youth sailors who hung back sailing right through the chaos so good coaching Charlie .The course was a definite struggle with everyone have several attempts at making A mark which was straight into the current but the down winds were definitely fast but then there was the struggle across the current before heading up again. Tom and Greg had their usual struggle with Tom coming out on top and peter coming home third and in the Youth it was aclose call amongst the girls and then Jade slipping over the line before Daniel who accidentally did a bit more of the course than he should have .
Upcoming : WE ARE CLOSED EASTER SUNDAY
