Hi everyone , Well you guessed it after my complaining last week regarding Idiot jetski drivers wetting us on Sarah Cooper it happened again last weekend only this time with our youth sailors who are even more vulnerable to this sort of stupid behaviour as its only going to take a slight miss judgement on the riders behalf and a serious accident will occur as happened last year with Daniel . I am going to take careful notice next weekend and if needed I will make a report to Waterways and the water police as something needs to be done before a serious incident occurs !
Please remember that we will be closed for easter as most of our instructors will be away at Noosa for the all boats regatta  for the weekend and I wish everyone well and dont forget to have fun!.
A big congratulations to Charlie Bratton as he spent last weekend learning the inn,s and outs of being a sailing coach through Australian Sailing and yes he passed so now he will be even harder to put up with , but seriously he has done the hard yards and this is the proof of the effort he has put in to forge a career in the sailing industry.
Well done mate !
The 2022 adult championship results are finally finished and I will be sorting trophies and prizes asap , so what took so long well I couldnt at first find some results but the turned up in the centre console of Sarah C but all good now .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
With only six people registering on saturday I knew we would end up with at least double so we catered for that amount and were pretty close 16 . We had 5 first timers yep one whole family who we put on lasers with Daniel in charge of one and Harvey and Tristan in charge of the other yep it was their real first sail on the laser so a lot of nerves but they did well except for a certain assistant instructor standing up while sailing which is a no no.
Both our Harrisons wanted to upgrade with Harrison Smith wanting to learn how to be an instructor and Harrison  ? wanting to give a laser a try and I have to say the both went well even if there were a few mistakes .
The conditions on the day were fine and sunny and with the wind roughly north east to east at around 4 knots it was perfect for our budding young sailors to give it a go . Jason and Guy were busy with a few boats drifting under the bridge and having to be towed back and of course the odd collision mainly from people not looking where they were going resulting in a few capsizes but all in all a good morning .
10.30 am Youth Sailing.
It was great to see Gemma back after her injury and she looks well on the mend , there,s nothing like a sail to shake out the cobwebs . After a roudy briefing were everyone just seemed excited to sail I decided to set our usual triangle as the wind had increased to around 6 knots and was really turning east so it was perfect for triangles using the green navigation mark . Jade and Dan waited for everyone to leave the beach before they joined the practice wwhich was definitely a good idea with people stuffing up on leaving the beach right Halle , yep climbing in the back of the bic is the easiest way to get on then its just a matter of sheet on and go ..Torsen sailed a Tera and was just cruising around the track and even Halle and Leila ( the wetsuit twins ) were managing to sail the triangle with a much better upwind performance ( close reach ) and even off the breeze . Another much improved sailor was Laya who used to really struggle upwind but she was also making it around the triangle and had no stall outs or capsizes . Taylah was also out mainly because she had made a promise to the group that she would sail and was forced to sail because of that but I think she actually enjoyed herself right Taylah?
1.30 Youth Racing
With the wind coming from the e/s/e at around 4/6 knots it was a perfect day for a no sail zone start with A mark right in the middle of N/S and with everyone hanging just behind the line it was always going to be a contested start . Daniel got the jump with Harvey in hot pursuit followed by Reece and the rest of the pack close behind .
Torsen got a bit stuck by pointing just a bit too high at the start  and allowed everyone to get a break and even with a good handicap for the Tera just couldnt peg people back . The big race was between Jade , Harvey and Reece especially toward the end where after some good jockeying around the marks Jade managed to pull in front as she wanted to finish one two with Daniel as it was their last race in the Bic before they move on to the 29er. Tristan didnt hit any marks and except for some bad luck with no wind like Zach sailed well and Laya sailed consistently around the course . The worst spot for wind was at the green channel mark as the wind just dropped out and with the outgoing tide people just went nowhere until the wind came back . So who came first well on handicap it was Harvey , 2Reece ,3 Daniel and jade4 but well done to everyone  .
