Our Junior group at 8.30 am is just cruising along with an average of 15 sailors every session with a large proportion especially among the girls becoming regular sailors although we will be loosing one of our girls in Taya who is having her tonsils out this week so good luck Taya .
While mentioning our female sailors we are looking at opening up a girls 8.30 training group just to improve their sailing and it will most probably be run by Taylah and Jade while us boys look after the boys who knows there could be a competition between the two groups later this year so it should be fun .
Our Youth sailors are all doing well with training and we even had a new sailor join the ranks on Sunday in Joe who has some laser experience and is showing good skills on the water . These session are becoming quite complex with discussions on rules ,tactics and weather starting each session then on the water for some race starts then distance sailing we even have a couple of new bic sailors out there in Harvey ( who is also off to the Bic regatta this weekend ) and Tristan ( better known as captain capsize !!) . The boys were a bit confused at the start line at first but they both soon got the idea to watch the flags ago go when they drop . The laser group is getting very competitive as well with Roscoe always full of beans at the start and just occasionally over before the start and forced to come back . Jade and Daniel continued their friendly battle with good statrs and sharp mark rounding and Taylah and Abby also looked really sharp must be all the coaching sessions on saturdays and tuesday,s , very good commitment girls !!!!!
Our race fleet started with ten boats so not a bad field with a mix of Open Bic and Laser . The start was tricky as we set a southerly course starting at the canal and A down at runners and B off Ephriam but the current was absolutely roaring out and the winds were s/e ranging from 2 to 10 knots so one boat was early yes Roscoe but he did come back and restart so he was fine . The race turned into a struggle as the wind came and went showing holes everywhere and the first boats to suffer were the Bic,s so we shortened the course for them as they just dont have the waterline length to cope in the current while the lasers with greg in front slowly cruised off all with full sails up except for Taylah and Ross ( 4.7 ) . Towards the alter half of the race with winds easing to around 4knots we decided to shorten the course by one leg for the 4.7 sailors allowing the whole fleet to finish within half an hour of each other so well done everyone .
