Hi Everyone , Looking at the current weather patterns both up north and down south and with fingers crossed the current winds ( averaging 30knots + ) and rain bands should subside by the weekend at least to the stage where we can operate all our weekend activities. Currently out the front of the club the wind is gusting 30 knots and our caretaker jeff and his wife wendy have lost another balcony marquee at around 1.00am this morning with wendy telling me she was out there in the rain trying to secure it in her pyjamas as jeff is currently in hospital recovering from blood poisoning . there was talk of calling me but thank god she got it down as I would not have looked forward to coming over at 1am in the rain and wind .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors :
With it being mothers day we didnt expect many junior sailors in this session but we still had eight sailors turn up to give it a try .
The weather was perfect with a basic southerly breeze at around 4/6 knots so Charlie and Taylah set a simple reaching course in front of the club and because of the good conditions we allowed everyone to both tack and gybe . As usual there were the odd rigging problems with tangled mainsheets , bent snail clips and loose vangs but they were soon rectified by the instructors on shore so that everyone could get out there and enjoy the morning  So who went well on the day ? heres the list Mitch Zack Max Olivia Xavier , Daniel yes all of the group sailed really well and not only sailed well even returned to shore well ( centreboards half way up ) but they also packed up their boats including washing the mud of sails from the odd capsize.
10.30 am Youth Training :
This group of sailors are really going forward with their sailing skills and with the winds now up around 12/15 knots and a bit gusty it was going to be a challenge on the water. As part of their preparations we always discuss rules and wind angles and they are all slowly getting it as they will need the knowledge for midwinter cup , manly regatta and Yeppoon . Reece had his first go at 10.30 but he stayed near the club with two older sailors in Guy and Scott and as per my instructions he only slightly smiled when sailing past certain people when they were capsized while he stayed dry . The rest of the fleet ended up at the yellow X up near runners practicing bearaways down to the yellow cone then back up again . Taylah was right into it with some fast gybes which she is definitely getting better at as she no longer hits her head with the boom . Abby went back early after three wild capsizes well thats what happens when you dont change sides as fast as the boom does right Abbs !!! Ross as usual sailed fast as did the Bic sailors with some really good mark roundings so all in all a great session.
1.30 pm Open Racing:
With most people away for mothers day we only had six boats at the startline which we set just south of the club and the A mark just behind the channel splitting mark down near runners and yes people still wrote it down ? The winds had increased to around 14/17 knots but luckily they had an incoming tide so the waves were only small . Ross capsized before the start as did Matt I keep telling them not to gybe around the start line when the wind sup maybe one day they will learn . The two Bics sailed well together with Jade slowly pulling away and finishing first while in the lasers greg did the same over steve and Ross while Matt pulled out after too many capsizes . Ross for some reason sailed too wide on the downwind otherwise I reckon he would have at least beat steve on handicap from radial to 4.7 , we did mention it to him after the race especially by sailing over there he sailed out of the incoming tide so lost ground on Steve . With Kelly now taking photos and posting them on line we now get to see more of what goes on on the water so thanks again Kelly.
