Our numbers were small for the day but being mothers day we expected as much as mums are very important so their day should be celebrated and by the sound of it those who I asked had already looked after mum early or were off out after sailing to shout mum a great day so well done everyone !
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
As expected we only had a couple of people at 8.30 class so lucky for them they all had a private lesson with an instructor . Jade took skye , Tristan took Oscar and I had Harvey .
The main focus for them all was tacking so we did our usual beach thing so we could get them facing front and generally steering It took a while but Jade soon had Skye tacking and facing front so she will have one up on her brother while Harvey who has had a few sessions really needed work on stalling out in his tacks so it was foot over the strap look forward change sides and rudder in the middle because you guessed it he was looking backwards . So how did he go well the smiles toward the end gave it away yep he was pretty good . Tristan who had oscar had some trouble with Oscars size so I suggested he kneel in the boat which gave him enough room to tack and just duck under the boom , why didnt we just put him in a bigger boat well it all happens much faster the bigger the boat so using a tera was just perfect . At the end the all handled the light conditions well so now we have to wait until next weekend to see what they remember?
10.30 am Youth Training
With about half the fleet messaging that were doing something with mum we only had a few starters and with the afternoon racing looking doubtful we decided to run the gazetted race at 11.30 am instead . Although the wetsuit girls ( Halle and Leyla ) had never raced before we talked them into it just for fun . The winds were around 8 to 10 knots from the s/e so we set a course starting just in from of the boat ramp and turning over near ephriam for a quick reach back . Jason was in charge while coached from the shore , I kept the girls back until 15 seconds before the start while Harvey just ducked the line and took of and Tristan with a passenger ? stalled out before finally getting going . There was a couple of capsizes with Halle,s being the most exciting , from what it looked like she tacked the boat got a gust missed the hiking strap and did an arms and legs backflip and yep the water was cold . As usual Harvey just bolted and was first over the line after 4 laps while Leyla was second Halle third and we wont mention missing the mark on one leg and Tristan 4th including capsize . mainly caused by too many people on the boat . I have suggested to the girls that they borrow a club wetsuit next week as the were both shivering while packing up..
1.30 Racing
There was no racing on the day so a few of the racers decided to go for a bit of training and the conditions were really good with the wind around 13/15 knots but it did look threatening for rain and yep you guessed it in started raining and what happens when it rains yep the wind falls out so we had people just managing to sail back ( casey ) wile the rest did a mixture of rudder paddling bot rolling and just generally crawling to the beach .
Thanks to everyone for helping charlie and I to pack up because it was pretty dismal for the rest of the arfternoon but at least charlie could spend the afternoon with Mum and me with my family.
