Hi Everyone , Well its getting closer yes the 2022 Midwinter Cup runs from the 25/6/1022 to the 26/6/2022 and is open to all youth sailors in Bic Skiff , Opti , Sabot and Laser and caters for both beginners and more experienced sailors with both racing and fun sailing over both days . This Junior / Youth Regatta started as a Open Bic regatta but after lots of enquiries over the next couple of years was expanded to include Opti , Sabot , Bic Skiff and Lasers so now it caters for a wider selection of boats which offers more competition for young sailors to test their skills over two days of sailing . As usual there are two divisions one being green fleet sailors who are basically still learners and then then open fleet for those with more experience under their belt .
To all our usual sunday morning sailors dont forget that on the weekend of the 25th-26th june there will be no junior sailors
8.30 am Sunday Juniors:
With the weather on saturday afternoon not looking good for sunday I must admit that I thought that juniors wouldnt take place but as I always say you never know what mother nature will come up with on the day which for sunday was overcast and about 5 knots from the south . We had 10 young sailors sign on with a couple of virtually beginner sailors which Harvey and Reece took on leaving most of the senior instructors to watch from the shore and occasionally fir rigging while Guy Taylah and Charlie coached them on the water . All the boys were soon out there including Leon who was having his first solo on a laser and despite being a bit nervous at the start he was soon out there and cruising around but next time he is going to sit further forward right leon so we can get more speed . Back on the rigging area Ross had his own audience as he showed some of our sailors how we tack with facing the front and having the tiller extension behind your back and I believe there is another session next sunday as well.
10.30 am Youth Sailing:
With ABBY missing due to being flooded in and Taylah not sailing we just had one laser and three Bics out practicing windward leewards and the old favourite whistle gybing . The wind had come in to around 7 knots but was more consistant down at Runners so we headed down there stopping foo at the canal to practice gybes . Harvey struggled a bit with the whistle system as its pretty consistant but Iam sure he will get it in the end while Ross who was over rolling at the start slowed the action and became much smoother . Jade  and Dan were lacking boat speed when coming out of the gybes mainly due to main sheet being held on instead of dropping the lot as they gybe which they did eventually get right and looked a lot more racey .At least everyone came back in smiling even Guy and Reece who had stayed down in front of the club practicing tacks and gybes .
1.30 pm Open Racing:
As it wasnt a club championship day the guys decided to just head out for a practice sail so they all went of to between ephriam and soverign to do some upwinds to the green at the top of soverign . Usually we just watch from the shore when they are in our channel but seeing that they were out of sight and Harvey Reece and Scott had decided to join them we loaded up and when out to watch them cruise around and luckily there was no rain!
Once everyone came back and packed up it was time for the 2021 club championship presentation so who won in 2021?
