Hi everyone , The big news for the club is that our new safety boat that was donated to the club by two great supporters of the club Buzz & Monty is finally on the water and running perfectly we even gave it to Jason to drive and he drove around for at least 20 minutes and it didnt break down so it means that its been Jason tested so she has to be right . The family who donated the boat have been locals for years and as they said to me they have watch the club grow over that time and were just blown away by not only the amount of kids that they have seen sailing but alos the great volunteers how donate their time on the weekends to make sure all the kids are safe and enjoy their sailing . The boat will be named Buzzmonty for obvious reasons and will mainly be used for general duties and racing . With the addition  of 3 more Bics to our fleet of Open Bics Skiffs we are looking at starting their own race series for 2023 and we will include Opti,s - Sabots and Tera,s for anyone who would like to come along and race here probably every second sunday like the open fleet and we will be asking for imput over the next couple of sundays . To start this possible series we are also looking at a one off race 27/11/22 which will co inside with our annual club marathon race starting at 1.30 pm and more than likely be held in our channel weather permitting .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
With a forecast of sunny weather it was always going to be a big day on sunday for junior sailing and it definitely was with 16 junior sailors signing on for the morning session who were taken back at first as the staff were all in a halloween theme yes even me in my black cape and charlie wearing his red devil horns as part of the fun . With Light winds and a big group of newbies as well we pulled out every usable boat bar two which are down at our Varsity Lakes sailing club for a school group and with the usual group of assistant instructors and instructors we soon had everyone kind of on the water why kind of ? well it was Halloween right so Charlie had organised races just for fun and it was a great success and yes very funny with people falling out of boats , drifting sideways and backwards but in general everyone finished each race even a few people who said they didnt know how to steer right girls! . Pack up was even quick as per Ross,s rule no one could go inside for more games until their boat was packed up so well done ross . By the time I walked inside there were games a plenty with pin the spider on the wed and a version of pub pong as well which all resulted in prizes of lollies and jelly sweets , a big thanks to Claire for organising all the fun as everyone had a ball .
10.30 am Youth Training
With the wind settling to the e/s/e at around 6 knots we soon had all the boats ready including the 29er skiff so off we went to briefing ,.Our first topic was return to shore as most people seem to have forgotten this process from what I observed a fortnight ago wher boats wer returning to shore with the wind behind them causing mayhem on the beach and it must have worked as this week they all came back pointing up into no sail zone .
They were all keen in both the Bics and the lasers  to basically go for a sail so we sent them south with the plan to keep going until we tell them to turn around . I  think especially the bics thought they would get a lot further but they all forgot the incoming tide which was quite long with only Harvey making it to the X mark at runners while the rest were about 80 mtrs behind . In  the Lasers of course Ross made it but Taylah stayed back with the Bics and just cruised while the new 29er sailors ( jade and Dan ) were just out to start learning how to sail the skiff. When they returned to shore they both looked happy especially as they didnt capsize but Iam sure it will happen in the future .
1.30 PM Open Racing
the next race for the open fleet is next sunday the 6th of november so the guys just went out for some training for the day and why not it was a perfect 6/8 knots sailing day .
