Hi Everyone , Yes the year is fast approaching the end with a New Year just around the corner but we still have some major events coming up this year with two sailing camps plus our Try Sailing Fundraiser and of course the club Christmas Party . Dont forget the club will be closed from the 21st of December and Juniors will be suspended until Sunday the 7th of January 2018
8.30 Sunday Juniors :
With the sun shining and the winds out of the s/e at around 6 knots it was looking like a perfect day for our early junior program and with quite a few new first timers signing on it was looking like a great start to the day . We had ten boats on the water with Casy in one laser and Charlie in another and Ben sailing with a couple os newbies as was Dallas it was up to me and Edwina ( eddy )to main the safety boat . Everyone left the beach very excited and as usual forgot nearly everything said at the briefing like steering in the middle and pull the sail on make the boat go and then tack! so yes there were a few visits under the bridge and a few capsizes out front but generally everyone went well with only the odd collision and of course accidental capsize ( right Ben ! ) We did have one moment and that was when Aiden , Jack and Dean capsized and when we arrived Jack was nowhere to be seen at the boat so with Dallas , Eddy and me both helping the boys get the boat up while looking for Jack we finally found him on Caseys laser because she say him just floating and picked him up . Charlie held the record number of crew on the day with 5 learners on board well done mate .
10.30 Sunday Juniors ;
With the winds now up around 8/10 knots it was time to set our sailors out for some tacks and gybes with Ollie Edwina and Abby closely following . Eddy was still struggling with her tacks so Casey took her for a sail and then some beach instruction before she went out again to give it a go but tiredness finally got her and she came in . Ben despite some protest which fell on deaf ears was tasked with Gybing practice and as is the norm lately when he consentrated he really nailed it . Abby had capsize practice but firstly really stuck her mast in the mud then after some nudging form the safety boat was so exhausted she just couldnt get in . But wait there was one more sailor out there Kaleb who after some finer points of instructing from me finally started to nail his gybes good work mate !

1.30 Open Racing ;

With this being the final race of the year it was designated as a marathon race around crab island . The winds had increased to around 15 gusting to 20 knots and with a southerly start it was always going to be a slog down to the deep hole . With Greg leading the way then me ( yes shock horror I actually raced ) behind him and the fleet closely behind me we all battled our way south to the west cardinal then we set of on an awesome broad reach up past curragee . Greg just took off and I battled to catch casey after I missed a mark and the rest of the fleet right on my heels . It was a great race up to the top of soverign but by the time we rounded the top mark to head south again I was truly struggling especially with hiking out and again Greg got away and Casey and Dallas started catching me again and by the time we rounded the x mark I decided it was time to take off which I did but you guessed it I took a leaf out of Toms book on downwind and crashed about 300 metres from the end so it was Greg First Casey second Steve third Dallas fourth Charlie then Michelle  me and Trisha .
I had so much fun even with the capsize and Iam definitely going to do it again wonce the muscles stop hurting !
