Hi Everyone , The weather is certainly warming up but the water isnt its still got that cool edge to it as all the assistant instructors found out on Sunday when they pushed each other in from the rescue boat and you guessed it complained that they were cold ?
Sunday Juniors 8.30 am ; With blue skies and perfect wind conditions 20 budding sailors turned up for this session so it was all hands on deck rigging boats and repairing the odd broken fitting . There was one sailor who really stood out must have been his new bright green ZIHKE PFD mainly because he never took it off all morning ( happy birthday Hado ) Its getting harder to pick the best sailor in this group as everyone is so keen to learn but a couple of standouts were Harry , Josh and Gemma on the day .
Sunday Juniors 10.30 am ; Well what can I say but since we decided to change this class to include racing practice its been a bit of a rollercoaster with nearly everyone struggling to come to grips with this new concept and yesterday was no exception . We set everyone off on a course including two buoys based on a n/n/e breeze but just as they started it went n/e which totally confused everyone resulting in a lot of boats drifting south . Cody and Olly figured it out but the rest needed assistance from the safety crews and the odd parent right abbey . It looks like we might have to do some more wind angles theory !
Open Racing 1.30 pm ; With 13 boats at the start line down at Runners and a long run up to A mark at the top of Soverign it was a long slug against the current but it settled into a match between Greg Tom and Maurie heading the field . Greg slowly got away and when Tom capsized we thought Greg would just streak away but Tom slowly closed the gap on the run to the club finishing only 40 seconds behind greg . Everyone else in the adult section are all getting faster so it should be good for not only club racing but the upcoming masters games .
The 4.7 sailors are really beginning to mix it with the adults at the starts with Casey Dallas and Pat right in there and Sienna and now Daniel still a little conservative . Dallas sailed the best I have ever seen him sail and was soon in front and never looked like being headed through the whole race . Casey tried to catch him but as a said to her after racing she was trying to over point which you just cant do in that much current . We did let Daniel miss a lap due to his lack of experience so he didnt score a place but at least he was out there .
