Hi Everyone , We had a big september with club sailing school holiday sailing camps and the Yepoon Regatta just to add an away sailing adventure for a few of our sailors . Juniors has been going great with good numbers every sunday morning and the camps despite some very ordinary weather were also well attended so sailing is alive and well at P.P.S.C. Although our Yepoon sailors ( Jade,Ross and Daniel ) probably dont realise it they have influenced some of our junior sailors who have been coming to Charlie and I wanting more information about sailing with a view to learning more about sailing technique and we even have one not quite seven year old wanting to become and instructor so who says competition doesnt work ? The october long weekend maintenance day was a great success with heaps of repairs done to the teras , lasers plus there was a lot of equipment sorting and even some building maintenance all in all a big day so thanks to everyone who turned up to help on the day .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors
Last sunday we were back to normal duties and with sunny skies and good winds we were soon all out helpig rig boats . Jason was back on sarah cooper and he set a nice reach straight accross the water toward ephriam .
The wind had a northerly direction with a little movement and was coming in at around 4/10 knots in the gusts so yes it was perfect for guys like Harvey and Tristan to really get the Bics moving while the tera fleet also had a great time . Willow was back after a winter break and really sailed her Tera well even though she thought she would be very rusty and even alex and aidan gave it a good crack even sailing at the buoys for a change . Abby jumped in a Tera to show a new sailor how it happens and even I got in a laser dodgy knee and all to also show a couple of first timers how it is done and yes it was great fun being back in a boat . With a group of 16 sailors on the water it was a busy time on the water for Jason and Charlie in both Sarah C and the yellow boat keeping everyone corralled in front of the club and even the pack up was good with even the littlies helping put the boats away .
10.30 Youth Sailing
With a new first timer in Harvey Joining the group in his Bic it was looking like a bit of a challenge for him with the winds now coming from the n/e at around 6/10 knots and a course set down to the canal and back up to the green but to both Charlie and my surprise he did really well with no capsizes and good boat speed so well done Harvey. The rest in abby , taylah , daniel and Ross ( no Jade apparently all partied out ) easily nailed the course with in my opinion the standout sailor on the day was Daniel who,s upwinds were just awesome with him generating nearly the same boat speed as Ross in the 4.7 especially on the upwind . Taylah had a bit of trouble with upwind just luffing slightly at times but with a bit of coaching she started watching the luff more and picked up speed . With Ross we worked on downwind especially legal pumping and no excess rocking remember ross to much body movement will get the judges penalising you.
Abby didnt do much as she had a friend from school on board so more talking than sailing .
As a side point Jade , Daniel and Taylah ( forgot to ask Ross ) are off on the 6/11 to do the australian sailing assistant instructor course so good luck guys and also Charlie is off on the 20/11 to do the final part of his Instructor qualification which is power boat handling which Iam pretty sure he will nail.
1.30 pm Open Racing
With the winds increasing in strength to around 15 knots we set a course starting at ephriam and a rounding buoy up near the last green at soverign so basically a windward leeward of four laps even though Charlie only wanted three laps just to short mate ! We only had 6 boats at the start as the youth sailors decided not to race which was probably a good thing as conditions definitely deteriorated by half way through the race to a strong 20 knots and choppy. Adrian had to pull out with too many capsizes so Charlie jumped on his boat and sailed it back while Taylah took him back on the ski . Greg as usual was uncatchable with Steve giving him a run for his money but the surprise package in the strong conditions was Michelle in the 4.7 who hunted Steve down and overtook him before the finish her upwinds were awesome . Charlie made a fatal blunder while helping us pick up the buoys and that is he sprayed me dan and taylah  so watch out mister bratton we wont forget .
