8.30 am Sunday Juniors :
With the beach covered in boats we were running late from the start but it was great watching not only instructors and also parents pitching getting as many boats ready as possible I even saw Charlie drilling hole and fitting new tiller swivels just to get that extra boat on the water .
With the winds out of the n/e at around 4/5 knots Jason set a reaching course and we proceeded to send everyone out while Taylah Daniel and Abby stayed shore wise and showed the new sailors basic boat handling and of course tacking . With such perfect conditions we soon had all our new sailors sailing out and joining the rest of the fleet which was an awesome sight seeing so many sailors on the water . With the open bic Harvey is just going ahead leaps and bounds and it looks like he is dragging Tristan along as well as his sailing is realy improving so no longer captain capsize Tristan ! When it came to pack up again we nearly ran out of room on the rigging area but again it was a great job everyone pitching in to help with the pack up even if the hosing got a bit wild at times .
10.30 am Youth Training :
Everyone was late rigging their boats because of the large amount of kids at 8.30 Juniors so we didnt get to have a briefing until 11.00 am where I shocked them all with announcing that we were going to practice starts which we havnt done in ages but a little bird told me that at the recent yepoon event a few people from P.P.S.C. were a bit slow at starting with the fleet . We set a start at the pontoon and just an( A ) rounding a 100 metres south . To my surprise the general starts were good with even Harvey as a first time starter getting amongst it . I dont know what Charlie thinks but my consistent best were Jade and Abby who nailed the most starts , and I better not to forget the ring in sailors in Scott who actually won one race then gave up while his record was intact . Even though everyone started looking a bit tired after a busy morning volunteering with the juniors they all still hung in there and with mainly the short course they were all still in a bunch at the finish . The conditions especially when we set the to the green nav mark were actually quite difficult with the winds shifting and the outgoing tide increasing making it a challenge to not only round the mark but get back to the finish as well but these people are getting sharper every week so well done team .
