Sunday 30th August - Sailing

2/9/2015

Hi Everyone , P.P.S.C. conducted its AGM last Sunday and I would just like to thank Pieter Verstoep who stood down as Secretary / Treasurer due to other commitments . Pieter has been with the club since its humble beginnings and together with his wife Justine have been tireless workers for the club throughout the years . I would like to thank them both personally for all their efforts at helping   P.P.S.C the successful sailing club it is today .

8.30am Juniors

With very fickle winds early from the west it was perfect for our mainly new bunch of sailors ( except Hado ) to either have their first go at sailing and for the more experienced sailors ( 3 session veterans ) to work on their steering skills . With an ever increasing outgoing tide their was even a bit of towing practice included as the wind dropped out and everyone drifted south .
Hado sailed well for the whole session and even his dad had a good day and didn't break anything on Sarah Cooper !

10.30am Juniors

With this group back to its usual numbers ( 8 ) everyone was keen to get on the water but as with the 8.30 people it was even lighter winds and more current .
I think everyone got towed at least once but it was good to see that most everyone remembered to sit forward and occasionally sit on the leeward side .

Just in time the winds swung South as predicted so we managed to get a couple of races in to round of the session . This part of the session seems to be the most popular part which shows our next bunch of Junior racers are just around the corner .

Open Bic / Laser 4.7

With only two Bics and one Laser 4.7 we decided to let Casey sail with the adults and Jonah and Dallas raced each other around the course set for juniors . The wind was now up to around 10/14 knots so it was just right for both of them to not have to contend with the tide. They are both getting very competitive which should bode well for the upcoming Queensland states at the end of September at SYC, yep just down the road !

Open Racing

This race started in spectacular fashion with a major jam up at the start resulting in a fleet call back and restart . I have to admit the line was overly biased for a port start ( it wasn't me ! ), which didn't help, but once everyone got away in the second it was good racing for the fleet with Will edging in front and Chris coming a reasonable second until his rudder fell off ( no snail Clip ), which left it up to Macca to come home second and Greg third . After some after race discussion it looks like we will be racing to the top of Sovereign in the near future . On a final note don't ask Howard to repair dolly tyres , he was still doing the second when we all returned !

Additional Notes

Building painting - is on again this Saturday, if anyone would like to help be at the club at 8.00 am .
