8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
With it being fathers day we didnt expect many students but we still managed to get 8 junior sailors keen to have a go in what turned out to be perfect sailing conditions with a wind from the n/w at around 4/10 knots . We started with a short course first but soon extended the course and then sert a third marker accross the channel as everyone was just cruising around the original buoys . Ava found out that when you accidentally gybe the Bic you capsize and get wet ! but other than that hickup she sailed well again in the Bic . Lachy in the laser is really doing well and should progress to 10.;30 class . Charlie Bratton spent some time with Archie as well teaching him steering and tacking while Casey and I kept an eye on the fleet .
10.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
With Abbey keen to get on the water in her laser and the rest of the team rigged and ready we sat down and discussed the weather conditions which had moved more north combined with an ever increasing outgoing tide made sailing the course a bit of a challenge especially for those who didnt pay attention at the briefing right Mason and Ben .Abbey decided to capsize early but once she got her boat up and running she really listened to instruction and sailed back up to t5he club and rejioned the fleet . Ben and Mason kept running aground even after we moved the buoy into deeper water ? maybe you guys should listen when we say aim at the marks then you wont run aground . Finally thanks for all our sailors who at the completion of their session packed up their boats well done .
1.30 pm Open Racing ;
With again only a small group of sailors because of fathers day we still managed to have 8 boats at the start line which we set down at runners with one leg upwind toward the club and the other leg up toward the top of Ephriam . Conditions were perfect with basically a northerly blowing around 12/15 knots and a neutral tide . The start was hotly contested but Charlie one the day with a perfectly timed start just beating the adults over the line . Roger led early but Tom took over in the second upwind with Greg behind him . Again they had a great race until the long leg downwind where you guessed it Tom capsized while leading ( yep he was filthy with himself ) and after getting his boat back up try as he might he just couldnt beat greg over the line but it was close with less than a minute in it . After an innitial battle with Charlie andPPat Casey broke away finishing just behind Tom for third over the line . Declan decided to do a extra lap and Andrew and Abbey in a tryout day in her laser pulled out in the last lap but still had great fun . What happened to Pat and Charlie ? well they were neck and neck coming up to the finish line except a moored houseboat got in the way making charlie capsize and then Pat who also nearly capsized as well ran over him and then hepled jam charlie,s boat into the houseboat . All ended well with Pat sailing back out with Casey and helped Charlie unstick his boat and finish . The only damage was a slight scratch on Charlies sail .
