Sunday 6th September - Sailing

9/9/2015

Hi Everyone . Well, another week closer to Christmas where has the year gone ? With Tom Slocombe's help last Saturday we have virtually finished the painting of the clubhouse except for the cage wall which can be done when time permits . We are having a maintenance afternoon next Sunday after Juniors as there is no racing until the 27th so if you can drill screw paint lift hammer and you have time your help will be greatly appreciated as there are some important items that need attention before Summer really hits .

8.30am Juniors

Being Fathers Day, we didn't expect many sailors and as expected the group was only small but conditions for nearly everyone to sail alone except or newest sailor Sophia who sailed with Ava and Captain Casey on the laser . Winds were shifty from the west to north so it kept everyone guessing until it settled in from the north at around 4 knots . Daniel and I spent nearly the whole session standing on the shore as the second safety boat wasn't necessary, and Tianna did her usual thing of acting as a rounding buoy for the new steerers.

10.30am Juniors

Again due to Fathers Day the numbers were small which was a shame as the wind settled in from the N/E at around 6 knots so instead of going around the buoys I sent them off to the green nav mark and back to the club pontoon. Everyone seemed to get the concept and after a couple of initial entanglements with the green nav mark ( Thomas ? ) everyone I think enjoyed their sailing session .
SHOES unfortunately we had another incident with bare feet on Sunday which ended with me picking pieces of shell out of Jackson's foot !!! shoes next time Jackson ?

Training : We only had one student turn up for training on Friday (Daniel) who spent 50 minutes gybing, yes thats right fifty minutes . Dan was certainly looking tired at the end but his gybing was much better.

Open Bic / Laser 4.7

With three Bics and only Casey in the 4.7, it was an interesting race from the start line which was not one of the teams best , its obvious to me Dan and Tianna that we have to do some start line training . They had a long course up to Sovereign and with variable winds it was Casey who made it around the mark first followed by Dallas , Jonah and a distant third Pat. However, on the return journey Jonah got in front, Casey stopped and Pat got towed . What a day, at least there is always next week !

Adult Racing

With a small fleet but steady winds and rain around 8/10 knots we sent everyone of to the entry to the Coomera River for a bit of a marathon . As usual the winds became fickle especially on the return with dead spots everywhere . Despite the changeable conditions Andrew in hernia ( our name not his ) slowly sailed away from the fleet and by the finish line held a respectable lead over Peter & John.

Did I mention the rain because Tianna , Dan , Ava and I ended up drenched, especially me as I had to lend Tianna my jacket as she didn't have one and was wet through before the start .
