Hi Everyone , What a great weekend just passed with good winds and sunny skies definitely different from the conditions I met in Victoria last week .
8.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
As is usually the case we had a couple of new sailors signing up for sailing on sunday morning and with a total group of 15 lined up and light conditions with winds coming out of the n/n/w originally it was again perfect for both new steerer,s and new Bic sailors to learn more about both tacking and gybing in their respective boats . Charlie and Ava soon had their bics cruising around the course and guys like Archie , Caiden ( bic ) edwina ,and Nathan really learnt how to steer their boats . It was a bit slow at first but finally the winds swung out to the east which gave everyone a bit more speed resulting in more fun .
10.30 am Sunday Juniors ;
With the winds settling in to around 6/7 knots e/n/e I first had Ollie out working on his tacking and general boat speed and with a little practice he was really cruising around the course at probably the fastest I have ever seen him go in light conditions . He was soon followed out by Will and Addy then Mary who was having her first try at 10.30 class . No one could catch Ollie though especially Will who learnt that you should always check your boat before sailing as who knows the bung might not be in !!! making  the boat very slow then rolling over when tacking . Addy sailed well and Mary slowly got used to travelling all the way to the canal and back followed by Casey and crew in the yellow boat . Its great to see these up and coming sailors improving their skills each week .
1.30 pm Open Racing ;
With the winds tending e/n/e at around 10 /12 knots then increasing to 16 Pete and I set a start over near the pine trees at Runners with a direct upwind return then a long run up to half way up soverign comprising of two legs finishing back at a mark . Even greg said he couldnt pick the preferred start side so I must have set a good line . The start was hotly contested with Charlie Bratton again really nailing the start with the rest of the fleet close behind . Greg was first around the top mark with Tom close behind until Greg just of cooked it and capsized allowing Tom to get in front and yes I do believe he had a smile on his face as he passed Greg swimming in the water . Charlie was also going well until you guessed it he went the wrong way after rounding A the second time but too his credit he battled on and overtook several boats . Casey and Dallas had a mighty struggle but Casey managed to get in front and Dallas after running aground just couldnt make up the distance . Finally Simone in my boat decided to run over Kate after she capsized at B apparently it was just a friendly greeting to P.P.S.C. ?
Upcoming ;
School Holiday sailing camps 18/19 and 25/26 sept
Try Sailing Day 3/12
Club Xmas Party 10/12 venue to be finalised
