Well, we have certainly had a BIG week at the Club, all starting with a group of 45 kids from Wynnum North Primary school coming down on Thursday for a learn to sail day. Not only did they have a great day but even the weather was kind to us with winds from 5 to 12 knots all day.

Thank you to the volunteers ( Pieter Verstoep , Aidan Verstoep and John Musgrave) for all their help, especially to John Mus for all the swimming he did on the day resulting from capsizing and jumping in the water to help right boats.

Saturday was also a great day with brilliant sunshine and good winds for skilled practice with Mike, Rob, Trisha and Craig turning up for a sail. I even got out there in the 470 and it was great being back on the water after a 6 week layoff.

Sunday started out with over 25 kids turning up for sailing in the morning with brilliant sunshine and light winds prevailing all morning. Again a special thanks to the volunteers on the morning, Allan and George Morton, and all the parents for pitching in with unloading boats and rigging.

Lastly we had Sunday Racing and conditions went from 6 to 8 knots in race one. Race 2 started with 4 knots and ended up at 30 plus with all competitors initially capsizing as they were smashed by the change.

Then, with help from the rescue boats righting their boats and heading for the nearest bit of shore where they all derigged and waited to be towed home. All but James Brown who was determined to sail back which he did including capsizes .

One incident was reported on the day with Judge John becoming unwell and having to go to the Hospital for a check up. Thankfully Michelle (Doctor) was on hand to assess him and keep an eye on him until the ambulance arrived.

Hopefully he is well and back at home.

Lastly, the Open Bic Regatta is a definite for the last week in June with Bendigo Bank supporting the Club and hopefully Gold Coast City Council who we have a meeting with next week to discuss their involvement
